Back-to-School Edition
LISD Families,
It is almost time for the 2024-25 school year to begin, and I am so excited to welcome all students back very soon! From welcoming the Class of 2025 to the incoming PreK students who are the Class of 2038 – we are excited for a great school year ahead! This email is jam-packed with resources designed to help your family prepare for August 13 and beyond.
Back-to-school forms are also available in Skyward and must be updated or filled out by all families (new and returning), and submitted ahead of the first day of school. If you have not yet downloaded the LISD App, this email provides directions so you can stay even more connected to our district and your child’s campus.
In public education, it takes “EveryONE” to ensure ALL students are confident, equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive and adapt for their future. EVERY family member, EVERY community member, EVERY student, EVERY educator. It takes everyone.
I will continue to keep you updated throughout the school year through my monthly RAPPort newsletter. Thank you for choosing LISD and we look forward to seeing everyONE on Aug. 13!
Dr. Lori Rapp, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

New for 2024-25
Student Meal Purchase History
Families can now access the meal purchase history of their student online via Skyward Family Access. To see this information, families will log into Skyward Family Access and click on "District Links" in the upper right. For more information click HERE.
Middle School Building Entry Time
When school resumes in August, middle school students will be able to enter the building beginning at 8:15 a.m. Students will not be able to enter the building before that time. This is a change from previous years.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones can be both a communication tool for families and a distraction to learning for our students. In order to focus our learning and instruction time with students, all elementary and middle school students will be required to put personal devices/cell phones away in the child’s backpack or designated location from the time they enter the building in the morning until the dismissal bell.
Middle school families can reach their students through their school email address or by calling the front office. Elementary families can reach their child by calling the front office. If students need to reach their families, they can send an email or call them from a classroom or office phone.
Each family comes with a different perspective on device usage; these changes still allow for iPad and personal device parental controls that go above and beyond district settings and expectations. To learn more about parental control settings on district and personal devices visit lisd.net/ipads.
LISD District Device Access
The district received input from principals, technology advisory members, parents and community stakeholders to update technology access guidelines that will both support student learning and assist with concerns over screen time. It has become clear that some changes are needed in order to support the best learning environment possible.
Students will no longer have access to web-based game sites on district iPads unless they are specifically educational in nature and approved through our web filtering system. In addition, LISD will be converting middle school student access from the Apple App Store to a district in-house managed App Store, similar to student’s elementary experience.
Limiting access to the LISD App Store will stay in place for rising sixth-grade students, who will have the same device they used in elementary school, and will go into effect for seventh and eighth-grade students as they receive new devices this fall as part of the 2023 bond proposition approved by LISD voters.
The LISD-managed app store will ensure students have access to applications that align with the LISD curriculum. We believe this provides a focused online learning environment by maximizing instruction time and limiting distractions during the school day.
Headphones for New iPads
Students in grades 1-4, 7-9, and 11-12 will receive new iPads this school year thanks to the support of voters in last school year’s bond elections. The iPads will require USB-C wired headphones, earbuds, over the ear wireless headsets, or wired headphones with a USB-C adapter. Look for “USB-C TO 3.5MM AUDIO ADAPTER” if purchasing an adapter.
Technology Updates
Things you to need to do or submit:
- Returning students - families need to review all forms, make necessary changes or updates, and submit.
- New students - families must complete ALL forms and submit. More information can be found here
3. Verify your child’s username and password are working:
- New to LISD (K-12) - A password will be assigned to your child and can be retrieved in Skyward using this guide (English, Spanish, Chin).
- Pre-K - Your child’s teacher will share their password with them when school starts.
- K-5 - New passwords went into effect July 15. To retrieve your child’s new password in Skyward, use this guide (English, Spanish, Chin).
- 6-12 - Students will begin the school year using their password from the 2023-24 school year. Please take the following steps:
- Verify your student is able to login to the LISD LHUB.
- Please ask your student/s to login to https://lhub.lisd.net to verify they know their LISD password and can access LHUB. If they are able to login, they are ready to complete the next step and change their password. Until school starts, if students need help with their password, they need to contact the Help Desk at 972-350-1833 - option 1.
- Students who have not updated their password since July 1, 2024 will need to change their password by August 18 at 11:59 p.m., or they will be assigned a password. If your student was able to successfully access the LISD LHUB from the steps above, they should know their LISD password and they can login to this site to change their password prior to August 18.
Safety & Security
STOPit App | Tip Line
As a reminder, the LISD community now has access to STOPit, an anonymous reporting system that allows individuals to submit concerns at any time, from anywhere. Visit LISD.net/safety for more information about this resource and how to access it. The tip line reopens for the school year on Monday, Aug. 12.
Emergency Communication
In LISD, we utilize the Standard Response Protocol, or SRP, which refers to five specific actions in the event of an emergency: Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter and Hold. In the event of an emergency you will receive immediate notification in the LISD app, email, and/or phone call from your child’s campus and the school district.
