Academic Update:
What is happening in Electives this week?
8th Grade Transition/High School Prep Class-
Ms King has been having students in the 8th grade class continue a persuasive research paper. Students have chosen a controversial topic to write a paper on that includes citations to evidence-based sources. Nurse Chloe finished off the week with a lesson on kindness. The class had great discussions on what kindness looks like and how to share kindness everyday. We started a kindness project that will help encourage teachers and celebrate them for Teacher Appreciation Week next week!
History through Film- Historical Context and Artistic Interpretation
Topic: Exploring the relationship between historical events and artistic expression, focusing on the Enlightenment and the rise of classical music, and the impact of war on individuals and animals.
Movies: Amadeus (1984) and War Horse (2011)
Activity: Analyzing how historical figures and periods are represented in a fictionalized biographical drama and how war impacts both human and animal lives.
Anime/Manga- Wrap-Up + Celebrate!
Compile, edit, and celebrate the manga. Final edits, title page design, dedication page. Scan or prep for publishing if applicable.
Chess- Opening Strategy and Game Strategy
Discuss the importance of the first few moves in a game. Understanding the importance of controlling the center. Developing pieces (knights and bishops) early in the game. The importance of king safety (castling).
Media Production- Advanced Video Editing and Showcase
Day One: Advanced Video Editing Techniques
Exploring advanced editing techniques: layering, effects, color correction. Students refine their video projects.
Day Two: Collaborative Video Projects
Students work in groups to create a short video. Focus on teamwork and collaboration.
Day Three: Refining Video Projects
Students refine their video projects based on feedback. Focus on polishing their final product.
Day Four: Video Editing Review and Showcase
Review of key concepts and skills learned. Students showcase their video projects. Feedback and discussion on each project.
Day Five: Final Presentations and Course Wrap-up
Final presentations of student work. Course wrap-up: review of key skills and concepts. Celebration of student achievements.
Teacher Appreciation Week May 5th-9th
Let's shower our amazing teachers with gratitude during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5th - May 9th)! They pour their hearts and souls into educating and inspiring our children every day. Here is a list of staff favorites if you would like to buy anything special for your students favorite teachers or staff. We also encourage students to write cards to their teachers, thanking them for all of their help over the last year.
May 18th Autism Resource Fair- We are looking for Volunteers
Prospect Academy will be representing a booth at the Autism Resource Fair on May 18th from 11-3PM. The annual Autism Resource Fair is a favorite Colorado autism community tradition. Nowhere else do so many families and individuals on the spectrum come together with the sole purpose of gathering resources and connecting with providers. We are looking for some parent volunteers that will help run the booth with Ms Chloe and Ms Hernandez. Please email if you would like to help!

Rockies Game Success!
The students, staff, and chaperons had a great time celebrate the Rockies win last week! Thank you for all the chaperons who volunteered their time to join our students! Go Rockies!
Parent Connect- Caregiver Support
Prospect Academy is partnering with the Carson Foundation to provide wrap around support to our caregivers. This program will launch with one-on-one caregiver coaching provided by Prospect Academy staff and expert consultants. If you would like additional support around parenting and behavior challenges, please reach out to Sean McHale at sean.mchale@prospectacademyco.org. This free program will launch over the summer months and will be limited to a few participants.
King Soopers Shoppers
Calling all caregivers who shop at King Soopers!! If you would like for some of your grocery shopping money spent to go towards finically supporting PA, please click here to add our school to your shoppers card number.
Any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to our school, at no added cost to you. King Soopers donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating King Soopers Community Rewards organizations. 5/9/25 WJ Testing Celebration- Ice Cream in the Park
To celebrate all the hard work with WJ Testing, we will be taking some students to Ralston Central Park to celebrate! Students who improve on at least 3 of the 5 main WJ Tests, will be going to the park for ice cream party in the afternoon of May 9th. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kelsia King.
5/9/25- Fun Friday- Penguin Games Two in the Park
We are hosting our second Penguin Games! Student will be able to use their critter-coins to participate in the games! May the best team win!
5/15/25 Thursday Funday- Tie Dye T-shirts
As a Prospect Academy Tradition, we will be tie-dyeing white t-shirts in preparation for the last day of school. In the afternoon of May 15th, all students will have time to decorate their t-shirts for students to wear to Field Day. Please see below for some important information:
- Please send your student school on the 15th with a white t-shirt to tie-dye
- We will have a few extra white t-shirts if your student forgets
- If you would like to donate, here is a list of supplies we will need: gloves, rubber bands, white t-shirts, tie dye bottles, tie dye powder, gallon zip-lock bags
5/22/25 Penguin Award Ceremony- Caregivers Welcome
On Thursday May 22nd at 1:30, we will be hosting our Penguin Award Ceremony. This is a great opportunity to come and support your student as they get end-of-year awards. The ceremony will start at 1:30PM in the upstairs of our building. We look forward to hopefully seeing you there!
5/22/25 8th Grade Graduation
To honor our 8th graders, we will be having our 8th Grade Graduation on 5/22 at 5PM! Dessert and refreshments will be provided. Graduation will be hosted on the upstairs floor of PA. This is a great event to invite family to if you would like to celebrate your 8th grader entering into high school! Please see below for additional details:
- 8th grade caregivers only: please email Nurse Chloe a baby photo and a current photo of your student for our graduation slide show
- If you would like to donate decorations or food/drinks for the graduation, please go to this sign up sheet
- 8th graders are encouraged to wear business casual to this event as we will be taking photos that they can have for life
- Please share the attached graduation invites to any friends/family that you would like to invite
5/23/25 Last Day of School-Field Day Fun
Lastly, to celebrate the end of the 2024/25 academic year, we will be hosting a Field Day for students! We will start the party at Prospect and then head down to Ralston Central Park at 1PM for more games, pizza, and popsicles. Please remember to have your student wear their tie-dye t-shirts this day! Please feel free to join us at the park if you would like to see students play field day games and sign each others tie-dye shirts. We will also be doing dismissal/pick up at the park at 3:15PM. TEEN JOB EXPLORATION AND SKILLS ASSESSMENT COURSE
Discover your strengths and explore different career paths with REV UP Employment Program’s Job Exploration and Skills Assessment Course for Teens with Autism and I/DD.
The Neurodiverse Summer Camp is open to teens ages 13-17 in the Denver Metro area with autism and/or intellectual disabilities.
