Dearest Lake Forest High School,
What a busy and beautiful week! I couldn’t let this Friday pass without a special tribute to our own Rickey Myles. Rickey is a legend at LFHS, and he celebrated his 40th year of service to our community just yesterday. It was fun spending time with him–seeing so many students who came up to congratulate and thank him, and even hearing him reminisce about his top 5 memories here. I won’t share them, they are his stories, but I will share that one of the most profound memories that I will have of the day are five simple Rickey words, “I do this because I care.” Hearing Rickey loudly proclaim this three times to so many staff and students–I. Do. This. Because. I. Care.
It was an emotional and beautiful sight to see. Let us all always remember to do this work because we care. There will be miles of Myles’ celebrations prior to his retirement, with a culmination at graduation.
On a much different note, I wrote about the District’s learning and leading around artificial intelligence a few weeks ago. I have also been engaging in my own learning on what generative artificial intelligence is currently able to do–some of which is unimaginable and unconscionable. This article in the New York Times is an AI nightmare as the technology is being leveraged to victimize and harm our children–even more than it already has. How do we keep our students safe when AI has this type of capability–and we are only scratching the surface?
I am sad. I am at a loss for words. And in the same vein, I believe in this community where I live and serve, and I believe our community can come together and continue to do and expect better for our students. Please consider starting a conversation with your student(s), his/her/their friends, other parents, and other community members.
As a reminder, here are those resources that I shared previously:
Internet Matters: A Parent’s Guide to Artificial Intelligence
Sincerely,
Erin

LFHS Alumni Announces Employment and Mentoring Opportunities
At Lake Forest High School, we are committed to supporting all graduates after they leave our halls. As our alumni discover their professional passions, we want to connect them with potential employers and mentors who can offer both opportunity and insight.
We are asking businesses and nonprofits, local, out of state, and abroad, to consider submitting available employment (permanent and temporary) and internship positions to be posted on our LFHS ALUMNI EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES WEB PAGE, housed here on the *Lake Forest High School website.
We also recognize great value in pairing more established professionals with young alumni, as well as alumni who are considering new professional paths. If you are willing to serve as an LFHS ALUMNI MENTOR to alums who are interested in learning more about your field, please insert your contact information below.
The LFHS ALUMNI Employment and Mentor web page is set to go live during April 2024.
We appreciate the ways in which many of you have partnered with LFHS in the past, and we are excited to provide these forums for the mutual benefit of our alumni, businesses, and nonprofits.
If you have any questions, please contact us at lfhsalumni@lfschools.net.
*Please note that the Employment and Mentor Webpages, while intended for LFHS ALUMNI use, can be accessed by the wider public. Lake Forest High School and LFHS ALUMNI are not responsible for monitoring connections outside of these forums, and will not be held liable for any unforeseen outcomes, professional or otherwise.
