WOLVES AT WORK: ENGAGING EVERY LEARNER
At St. Francis of Assisi, we’re committed to creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment. This year, our focus is on enhancing student engagement through strategies that foster active participation and critical thinking. During Professional Development Days, teachers are building their toolkit with Total Participation Techniques (TPT), designed to involve every student in meaningful learning. Look for upcoming highlights of these techniques in action, with photos from our classrooms!
This week, our Grade 8 students were actively engaged in their learning through Total Participation Techniques! They loved using Clock Partners and Gallery Walks to collaborate in small groups, enhancing discussion and teamwork. In Language Arts, students used "True, Not True, True with Modifications, Unable to Determine" cards to strengthen critical thinking and spark focused conversations. Many students shared that these activities made reviewing for their upcoming assessment in Social Studies both meaningful and fun!

COMMUNITY NEWS
We are delighted that our 16th Alberta-wide Multimedia Contest for Grades 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 is now underway!
Students can enter and create a presentation that features the lifetime accomplishments of an outstanding Albertan. Then they can catch the inspiration and commit to making a difference in their own community. Teachers who had their students enter in 2024 were pleased that the students learned a lot about Alberta history as well as working on their citizenship goals.
Check out the rules, rubrics and contest resources and see how the contest fits with the curriculum in ELAL and Social Studies. 2025 Student Contest - Alberta Champions Society You can also check out last year’s very impressive winning entries!
Thank you so much for once again sharing this information with the teachers in your school district. It would be wonderful to have lots of entries from your part of the province.
Warm regards,
Pat Christie, B.Ed.
