March 7, 2024
From Ms. O's Desk
Dear Quetzal Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week! Isn't it incredible that we are already in March! It seems like yesterday that we came back from our December break. As we continue to celebrate Women's History Month, we take the opportunity to reflect on the remarkable contributions of women throughout history. From trailblazers in science and politics to advocates for social justice and equality, women have played pivotal roles in shaping our world.
Today, we'd like to highlight the stories of three extraordinary women whose courage, resilience, and determination continue to inspire generations:
1. Malala Yousafzai: Malala's story is one of unwavering courage and dedication to education. Born in Pakistan, Malala defied the Taliban's oppressive regime by advocating for girls' rights to education. Despite facing threats and violence, she continued to speak out, becoming a global symbol of resilience and hope. Malala's bravery earned her the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, making her the youngest recipient in history. Her commitment to education reminds us of the transformative power of knowledge and the importance of fighting for equal opportunities for all children.
2. Harriet Tubman: Harriet Tubman's legacy as a leader of the Underground Railroad is a testament to her indomitable spirit and commitment to freedom. Born into slavery in the United States, Tubman escaped to the North and risked her life to help countless others find their way to freedom. As a conductor on the Underground Railroad, she led daring missions to guide enslaved individuals to safety, earning her the nickname "Moses of her people." Tubman's bravery and selflessness serve as a reminder of the power of courage and compassion in the face of injustice.
3. Susan B. Anthony: Susan B. Anthony was a pioneering suffragist and women's rights advocate who dedicated her life to fighting for equality. She played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement, tirelessly campaigning for women's right to vote. She co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association and traveled across the country, delivering impassioned speeches and rallying support for women's suffrage. Her tireless efforts paved the way for the passage of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote in the United States. Anthony's dedication to equality and justice continues to inspire activists around the world.
As we honor the legacies of these remarkable women and countless others, let us reaffirm our commitment to creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive and fulfill their potential, regardless of gender. Thank you for joining us in celebrating Women's History Month and recognizing the invaluable contributions of women throughout history.
Remember to set your clocks one hour forward this Sunday, and please join us at our Cafecito with Dr. Rudolph on Tuesday at 5:30pm in our MUR. We look forward to seeing you there.
With warm regards,
Claudia Olaciregui, Principal

In the month of March, #BetterTogether is taking a moment to honor the women trailblazers who shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations. As a way of honoring them, students in the district will also be learning about what it means to embody the spirit of being helpers for others, especially for others facing challenges and inequities. By standing #BetterTogether and amplifying the voices of women, we honor their legacy and continue to strive for a better world.
