Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,

Its hard to believe it is the last week of school!

The students earned a dress down day on Monday for reaching our first Trojan Trot goal of $12,500! Students may wear blue jeans, SMG Spirit Wear, tennis shoes and socks.

We want to thank everyone who has contributed to our Trojan Trot fundraiser so far! Our goal is to raise $25,000, we’ve reached $15,843. That means Mrs. U narrowly escaped being taped to the wall during the Trojan Trot… for now! But there’s still time! We’ve extended the deadline to Thursday, May 22, to give everyone one more chance to help us reach our goal. If we hit $25,000, Mrs. U will be taped to the wall during the break at Field Day—a fun and unforgettable way to celebrate our success! You can donate online at mybooster.com.

The 8th grade graduation Mass is at 6:30 PM on Monday if you would like to celebrate the class of 2025! After Mass on Wednesday, we will have our awards ceremony. Please make plans to join us if you are free. Thursday at 1:30 PM is the Kindergarten Graduation.

Friday is the last day of school. We will have rainy day drop off due to field day set up. Students should wear their Trojan Trot/Field Day shirt. Students are asked to wear socks and tennis shoes and appropriate length shorts. Please put sunscreen on at home, this can not be put on at school. We will have indoor dismissal at Noon. There is NO SMEED. All students must be picked up.

For years, educators have known that students lose reading skills during the summer if they do not continue reading. They call this loss the “summer slide”. Research on summer reading finds that students who DO NOT READ in the summer can lose two to three months of reading skills; kids who DO READ tend to gain a month of reading proficiency. We also hope our reading program will promote a love of reading books that are wholesome and enjoyable.

SMG students receive a Terrific Trojan sticker when they are "caught" being safe, responsible and respectful. After wearing the sticker during the day, the Terrific Trojan places it on the hallway bulletin board. We love seeing how full the bulletin board becomes by the end of the school year.

Thanks to all who participated in the NJHS fund raiser.

We had a great evening while showcasing our talented art and music students. Under the direction of Mrs. Jamison, the 8th grade graduating class displayed the Living Wax Museum of Artists while other students displayed their creative artwork in the cafeteria and hallway.

Mrs. Richards directed the Spring Music Program, I Am a Masterpiece, featuring Kindergarten through Fourth Grade music class students, along with the Saint Maria Singers. Thanks for sharing your musical gifts with us!

With Father Maul and Father Francis away, Mrs. Utendorf and the rosary club lead the school in a rosary before the candle passing ceremony.

We said our farewells to Mrs. Ahmed, Sister Thuan Phan and Sister Mary Monica Vu during the candle passing ceremony on Wednesday. We wish them well in their future endeavors. They have all been a valuable and loved member of the SMG staff and we will truly miss each of them.

During an emotional candle passing ceremony, the graduating eighth grade class passed on the responsibility of school leadership to the 7th grade class. Congratulations to our graduating seniors and good luck to our incoming 8th grade class.

PreK-8th grade SMG students walked the school grounds saying the Rosary and stopping at statues for each mystery.

Run Club celebrated a year full of running. Despite all the rain out dates we ran a combined total of 180+ miles.
