News from Carl Sandburg

Message from Mrs. Johansen
Dear Wildcat Community,
We had a tremendous first few days with your students! The positive energy is contagious within the building and we hope your students had as much fun as we did! Our Sandburg Success and Belonging Committee knocked it out of the park with their incredible attention to detail. I'm so grateful to work alongside such a dedicated group of professionals. It'll be a great year!
Here are a few reminders for you...
1. Please make sure your child's Chromebook is charged each night. We do not have the ability to charge every student's device during the day if they come in without their device fully charged.
2. Parent Orientation is this Thursday evening at 6:00. All parents are invited to attend and learn about the classes their students are taking at Carl Sandburg. There is a brief presentation from myself and Mr. Hernandez during the lunch periods that will be held in the cafeteria.
3. Our fall testing season begins this week. Please review this letter from our D15 Teaching and Learning Department for more information about MAP testing.
4. We welcome all parents to join us at the PTSA meeting at Sandburg tomorrow evening. We'll meet at 6 in the Sandburg library.
5. Athletic tryouts and meetings take place this week. If your child is planning to participate, please review the activity bus routes below and determine which bus your child will be on. Activity bus routes are not door to door. Students may be dropped off at one place and have to walk about a block. It all depends on your residence. We appreciate your patience as this process begins.
Have a wonderful week!
Erika Johansen
Sandburg Principal
Safety in the Sandburg Parking Lot
If you have driven your students to school last week, you have probably noticed the congestion in the parking lot. There are a few things you can do to help us with moving safely through the lot.
1. If your child is assigned to take a bus to school, please have your children take the bus. This will cut down on the congestion in the parking lot.
2. Students may not exit a car unless they are in the lane closest to the school. It is not safe for students to move in the parking lot between the cars. Additionally, it slows down the process when we have to stop cars quickly because we are looking for kids where they shouldn't be.
3. When you are in the lane closest to the school, as soon as your car stops, your child should exit the vehicle. This will cut down on the starting and stopping. Please have your student ready to move as soon as the car stops so that you can move through the parking lot safely.
Upcoming Dates to Remember
- September 9th- PTSA meeting 6:00 in Library

Cell Phone Expectations in District 15
As we prepare to welcome students to the new school year, I want to emphasize the importance of creating a focused learning environment for all students. To ensure that our classrooms are conducive to learning, the expectation is that cell phones must be kept powered-off or silenced and out-of-sight during the regular school day. Please review the student-parent handbook for additional details. By following these guidelines, we can create a positive and productive classroom community where students can fully engage in their education.
D15 Transportation Information
**NEW THIS YEAR** We will be using an app called "MyRIDE K12". It is the same app that District 211 and 214 are using, so if you have a high schooler, you may already be familiar with it. Details on the new app are available on the transportation page of the D15 website linked HERE. Parents will be able to get LIVE transportation information for their student(s), in English or in Spanish. They will also be able to track their student(s) bus, and the app will give them a real-time ETA to their stop.
CSMS Activity Bus Routes Depart at 3:55 pm Monday-Thursday
