Uniform Policy
We have recently observed an increase in students not adhering to our uniform policy. To ensure consistency and maintain a focused learning environment, we want to remind everyone of our uniform guidelines.
Uniform Policy:
Monday through Thursday: Students are required to wear uniforms.
Friday: It is a free-dress day, allowing students to wear any school-appropriate clothing.
Uniform Options for Elementary (PreK-5th):
Solid Color Polos: Red, navy blue, or white (no logos, lace, or ruffles). These polos can be purchased from retailers like Target, Walmart, The Children's Place, Old Navy, Costco, and Kohl's.
NYOS T-Shirts: Available in school colors (navy blue and grey/silver) through various fundraisers throughout the year.
Pants, Shorts, Skorts, or Jumpers: Navy blue, black, or khaki/tan (please avoid denim and athletic/sweatpant material).
Tights/Leggings: Solid colors matching the bottoms or white. Do not replace pants.
Shoes: Closed-toe shoes are required every day (no sandals).
We understand that uniform items may sometimes be difficult to find or afford. To assist with this, our PTA offers a Free Uniform Exchange program at various times throughout the year. Families can take needed items for free and are also welcome to donate outgrown clothing.
NEW in 2024, the Uniform Exchange is now available by request! If you are in need of new sizes, or just new-to-you uniforms, complete the form linked below to make your request. If we have the uniform pieces you need, we will then deliver them to your child's class by the following Friday. If we are unable to fulfill your request at that time, we will let you know.

Reminders!
Free & Reduced Meal Application
The Deadline to get your FARMA Application turned in is August 28th and is fast approaching!
Did you know that the more Free & Reduced-Price Meal applications a school receives, the more students can receive the breakfast or lunch needed for them to do well in school? School districts receive reimbursements and both state and federal funding based on the number of students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Federal funding for NYOS depends on having an accurate count of all students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Free and reduced-price meal applications are completely confidential. Your information will only be used to determine your child’s eligibility for school meal programs, and students who receive free and reduced-price meals are not identified.
We encourage all families to fill out our free & reduced-price meal application; even if you think you may not qualify. By filling out this application, you can help to ensure that your child will receive well-balanced breakfast and lunch meals throughout the school year. Please take just a little time to complete this form. Completed forms can be emailed to Operations at ops@nyos.org for approval.
Celebrations and Appreciations!
Your kind words and support for our staff is greatly appreciated! If you would like to send a Shout Out or Celebration to a NYOS Elementary staff member or teacher, please do! It can be anonymous or signed.
Thank you for lifting up our hard working teachers and faculty. We love what we do and appreciate your partnership!

Respect
This month’s focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways and we hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together! Respect is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.
