We acknowledge and are mindful that Bidwell Jr. High School stands on lands that were originally occupied by the first people of this area, the Mechoopda, and we recognize their distinctive spiritual relationship with this land, the flora, the fauna, and the waters that run near campus. We are humbled that our campus resides upon sacred lands that since time immemorial has sustained the Mechoopda people and continues to do so today.

Please remember to contact the Attendance Office if your student is going to be absent via email at: aleonard@chicousd.org or call 891-3080 Ext. 41115. Please include your student’s name, the date of absence, and the reason for the absence.

Daily school attendance has a major impact on student success. If your students’ grades last semester weren’t quite what you’d hoped they’d be, there’s a decent chance that attendance played a negative role. On average, we saw about TWICE as many absences last semester on Fridays and/or days next to long weekends or holidays. Bidwell would hit our attendance goals if those days simply had the same number of absences as other days (about 30). While we would all love to extend our weekends, the reality is that many classes finish projects, take exams, or have other important assignments due on Fridays. If students aren’t here to complete those assignments or to get that help, they tend to fall behind, get frustrated, and lose motivation. With over 1,000 students, attendance at Bidwell isn’t so much about “getting funding” as it is about student engagement and connection to our campus. Thank you in advance for considering this request to help your students finish each week on a strong note!

Bidwell will be hosting a Girls on the Run: Heart and Sole team for the spring season! We have 2 amazing coaches from Chico State who will be coaching at Bidwell, and registration is free! Practices will be just once a week on Mondays from 2:50-4:50! Practices will start on Monday, February 3rd, and there will be an Aloha Day meet and greet for one hour on January 27 in room 406. This is an amazing program for any girls who want to make friends, boost confidence, and grow in mental and physical health. Girls do not have to have any background in running.
