DAVIES HIGH SCHOOL
EAGLES REPORT - MAY 2024
Honor – Integrity – Pursuit of Excellence
Spring Greetings to our Eagle Families -
It’s with a blend of excitement and nostalgia that I draft our final Newsletter for the 23-24 school year, marking the final countdown to another school year’s closure at Davies High School. Reflecting on the year that has swiftly passed, I’m filled with great pride and gratitude towards our exceptional students, dedicated staff, and supportive parents/guardians. Together, we’ve navigated challenges and celebrated numerous achievements, making our school community stronger and more vibrant. We continue to be stronger together in our pursuit of excellence.
As we enter this final month, I am reminded of the great potential and resilience demonstrated by our Eagles. Our seniors, on the brink of new beginnings, are preparing for life beyond high school, while underclassmen are gearing up for the opportunities the next academic year holds. We’ve concluded the 24-25 registration process and are working on schedules for next year. It’s truly inspiring to see the heights our students reach, whether in academics, athletics, the arts, or community service. Their successes underscore the spirit of excellence that defines Davies High School and the leaders we hope they all become.
We still have a busy schedule ahead in these last few weeks, filled with important events and milestones:
- AP Testing: May 6-17. Details and schedules are available inside this newsletter.
- Academic Awards and Senior Scholarships Ceremony: May 15 at 7:30 AM (by invitation only), followed by the Davies Day Chalk Fest & Activity Day.
- Final Deadline for Online Classes/Credits for Seniors: May 28.
- Last Day of Classes for Students: May 28. For those students who meet proficiency requirements.
- Proficiency Days: May 29 & 30. Required for students who are currently at a D/F and for any student missing evidence recorded.
- Graduation Practice (Mandatory for Seniors): May 31, 8:30 AM at the Fargodome. Seniors unable to attend due to school activities will have an alternative rehearsal scheduled.
- Davies High School Graduation: June 2, 3pm at the Fargodome.
I encourage everyone to reach out to our high school office at 446-5600 with any questions or needs relating to your child’s involvement at Davies High School. Our goal is to strengthen our partnership with parents and guardians, as this collaboration is crucial in positively influencing and supporting our students.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue building upon our relationships with each of you, fostering an environment of Honor, Integrity, and the Pursuit of Excellence.
Let’s all strive for a strong finish to this academic year and a refreshing, enjoyable summer ahead.
With warm regards,
Troy Cody
Principal

Western Governor’s Foundation Celebrate the West Art Competition
Junior, Elsa Axtman was recently chosen as the North Dakota and Overall winner of the Western Governor’s Foundation Celebrate the West art competition. Her entry, a painting titled Grandma’s Table is also entered in the People’s Choice category. If you want to help Elsa win that, please click on this https://pollunit.com/polls/2024ctwvotingforpeopleschoice and vote for her entry.
Elsa wrote the following to describe her artwork:
My painting gives a glimpse into so many North Dakotans' heritage with a common bond of meals shared with family, friends, and neighbors. I painted a picture of a supper at Grandma's with food my family enjoys, special to ND. I began with a doily and a quilt centerpiece because my grandma always has these pieces on her table. I painted Knoephla soup to represent my German ancestry. Next, I painted beets and pickles because my grandmas always had homemade pickled veggies to eat. I thought of the pride so many people from North Dakota have in their gardens, so I included a salad made from their fresh pickings. I also added lefse to commemorate my Swedish heritage, showing a staple to every special meal. Other than food, I added a recipe, mail, and newspaper from my dad's hometown because my grandma's table is always full of today's happenings.

Philanthropy and Youth (PaY)
PaY has been busy this year with its theme of Creativity. In the fall, Davies PaY group decided on three areas for our non-profit focus this year: animals, the arts, and child self-expression.
Over the course of the winter, our groups met with their non-profits to find out how they could use up to $1500 of grant money “creatively” in their organizations. From funding new musical instruments, to engaging with restoration projects for their groups, the non-profits made our deliberation process challenging.
As a group, we deliberated and decided on multiple organizations in each area of focus. We presented those grants to the Barry Foundation in March. We recently heard that all of our organizations were granted their money, and we are happy to say that those grants totaled $6,000. In addition, we have done Inspire, Lead, Share projects as well, giving back to our local community and organizations that we researched this winter.
This spring, we will close out our year with the PaY Celebration on May 7th. In addition, 4 of our PaY members were granted scholarships this spring through the Barry Foundation. Congrats to Megan Drummond, Jordan McLagan, Mackenzie Wetch, and Lauren Christianson. We are thrilled for them!
Overall, it has been a great year!

2024 AP EXAMS
Schedule and Locations:
NURSES CORNER: IMMUNIZATION UPDATE: GRADES 11 AND 12
For the school year 2024-2025, a second dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) is required for students entering eleventh or twelfth grade. This rule went into effect for the school year 2018-2019. This means your student will need proof of two doses of MCV4 before returning to school in the fall if they have already turned 16.
Ideally, children should receive one dose of MCV4 when they are eleven to twelve years old and a booster dose on or after their sixteenth birthday. Please schedule with your child’s health care provider or your local public health. Please have your child receive this booster prior to the start of the school year or shortly after their 16th birthday. If your child received their booster dose prior to their 16th birthday, they would need to receive another booster dose after their 16th birthday. Also, remember to bring in proof of the immunization documentation to the school.
If you have any questions, please give me a call at 701-446-5621
