J. C. Young Middle School
December 2024 Edition
Greetings Wolfpack Families and Friends!!!
As we approach the end of the calendar year, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on the many accomplishments and memories we’ve created together at Jean Childs Young Middle School. There are always so many noteworthy things happening here, so be sure to keep an eye on this monthly newsletter, our website, and all of our social media outlets for events and announcements……you definitely do not want to miss out!! This will ensure that you can remain actively involved and always engaged.
December is a season of gratitude, celebration, and giving, and I am reminded daily of the incredible community we have here at our school. I could not be prouder to be a member of this Team and am beyond elated to be on this journey with you!!
This month brings not only the excitement of the holidays but also the opportunity for our students to finish the semester strong. Whether through class projects, winter performances, or acts of kindness within our community, our students continue to demonstrate resilience, creativity, and compassion.
As we prepare for winter break, I encourage families to take time to connect, recharge, and reflect on the successes of the first half of the school year. Together, we can support our students in setting goals for the months ahead and celebrating their growth and together, we are continuing to “Rebuild the Legacy” of Jean Childs Young Middle School every single day.
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Wishing you a joyful and restful holiday season!
Sincerely,
Ronald Garlington
Principal

Great Things Happening at JCY
On November 21st, twenty engineering students from Jean Childs Young Middle School embarked on an exciting field trip to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a backstage STEM tour. This immersive experience allowed students to explore the engineering marvels of the stadium, aligning with standards such as the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for understanding the principles of engineering design and sustainability. The tour included stops at the Atlanta United locker rooms, the field, the Window to the City, the Skybridges, and the exclusive Clubs, providing a comprehensive view of the stadium's infrastructure. Students made real-world connections to sustainability by learning about the stadium's eco-friendly design, including its use of renewable energy sources and water conservation systems. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their understanding of engineering concepts but also inspired them to consider the impact of sustainable practices in their future careers.
