FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
Firstly, thank you to everyone who was able to join us at our Christmas Concert this past Friday, January 6th! It was a wonderful, joyous way to conclude the Christmas Season. You can see a few photos from the evening below. Also, a special thank you to Mrs. Gagnon for all of her hard work in preparing our students for the concert!
As I walked the halls of Father Doyle School this week, I was struck by just what a vibrant and active community we are blessed with here! Not only is there incredible learning happening in our classrooms each and every day, but this week alone featured the following:
- On Monday and Thursday, the first meetings of our Art Club (Grades K-5, with middle school student leaders).
- On Tuesday, the first session of our SPARK Business Academy Little Foodies Program met for students in Grades PK-2.
- Also on Tuesday and Thursday, our Show Choir (Grades 3-8) continued to meet and rehearse for their Spring performance on Saturday, May 20th.
- On Wednesday, we had professional development for teachers focused on teaching word recognition, language comprehension, and conceptual math skills across the grade levels (thanks to our partners at Jounce!)
- Also on Wednesday, the introductory session of our Instructional Soccer program for Grades K & 1.
Not to mention upcoming events including Candy Bar Bingo (Grades 6-8) this evening from 6:30-8:00pm, the next home game for our Junior CAL Basketball Team tomorrow at 11:00am, and next week the first formal meeting of our Middle School News and Media Club (Friday, January 20th, 2:30pm) and our Glow Dance for students in grades PK-5 (Friday, January 20th, 5:30-7:30pm).
Memorial Mass for Mrs. Brusic - Saturday, January 14, 2023, 11:30am
Fr. John V. Doyle School will be having a Memorial Mass offered in loving memory of Mrs. Kathleen (Staisunas) Brusic (formerly Kathleen Ball), our beloved former English teacher who passed away on Christmas Day. The Mass will be at 11:30am this Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Ss. John and Paul Parish, 341 South Main St., Coventry RI, and will be followed by Coffee and Refreshments in the Parish Hall. All are invited to attend, as we continue to remember Kathy and pray for the repose of her soul. The Mass will also be live streamed on our parish and school’s Facebook Page.
Kathleen’s family informs us that they plan to have a Celebration of Life event at URI later this Spring; we will share this information with the FJVD/SSJP Community once their plans are finalized.
FJVD Annual Auction - March 25, 2023
Our FJVD 2023 Auction Committee is starting to prepare for our school's Annual Live/Silent Auction Dinner, Saturday Evening March 25, and they are currently asking for donations of gift cards to use for the auction. We are asking that each family donate one gift card (of any denomination!) - supporting a local business, one of your favorite eateries or stores, or even an extra gift card you may have from the Christmas season.
Gift cards will then be utilized to create package items for the silent Auction as well as support other initiatives during the course of the evening. Gift Cards and other items can be dropped off at the school (at the main office in an envelope marked "FJVD Auction") or rectory; you can also drop off items at Sunday Mass in the Auction Bin, and gift cards in the collection basket. If you can help, please visit our Online Auction Wish Board at bit.ly/FJVDwishboard. Please help us make this year's auction another great success! And stay tuned for more info regarding this year's auction in the weeks to come!
If you'd like to learn more about our Annual Auction, the next Auction Planning Meeting is being held Saturday, January 14th at 10:00am in the Learning Center. Thank you so much for your support!
January Open House - Sunday, January 29th
Help spread the word! Our annual Catholic Schools Week Open House is coming up on Sunday, January 29th from 12:30pm-2:30pm. Interested families can register at the link HERE. A reminder that Father Doyle School offers a referral incentive. For more information, see the documents here.
Fall 2023 Parent Survey RESULTS
Each Fall, the administration disseminates a Parent Survey to all enrolled families to gather feedback about school programs, new initiatives, and other important elements of the Father Doyle experience. I am pleased to share with you results from our annual Fall Parent Survey here. In this document, you'll find an overview of survey responses including numerical averages for key questions and sample comments provided by parents. Perhaps most importantly, the document outlines actions being taken by the school based upon feedback shared within the survey.
