Moments in May
Theodore Roosevelt School No. 7 Newsfeed [Vol. 5, Issue 1]
As flowers bloom, so do bright young minds.
May is here, and we're in the home stretch of an amazing school year! With so many exciting activities planned, this month is sure to be a busy and fun-filled time for our students. We're so proud of the growth we've seen in every child and can't wait to celebrate their accomplishments. As we enjoy these final weeks together, we also want to wish all our families a very happy Mother's Day to those who celebrate! -Ms. Carina Pereira
Teacher of the Year
This year, I'm honored-- and honestly a little surprised-- to be named Teacher of the Year. As both a teacher and editor of our school newspaper, it feels a bit strange writing this shoutout, but I do so with deep gratitude. Every day, I strive to show up for my students with heart, patience, and love for learning, just like so many amazing educators I'm lucky to work alongside. This recognition is not just mine-- it reflects the support of a strong school community and the incredible students who make teaching so meaningful.

Shout-Out Spotlight: April's Awesome Citizens!
This month, we were on the lookout for students who showed outstanding-citizenship-- being kind, helpful, respectful, and always doing the right thing, even when no one is watching!
Let's give a HUGE round of applause to our April Citizens on the Month! These students stood out by showing what it means to be a great classmate and community member.
Congratulations to our shining stars! You make our school a better place, and we are so proud of you! Keep spreading kindness and showing your golden hearts.
Who will be next? Stay tuned to see who makes the list in May!
Pre-K 4 Eggstravaganza!
Mrs. Catania's Pre-K 4 class has an eggtra special time at their Eggstravaganza before spring break! Dressed to impress in their very best, the kiddos turned the classroom into a runway of cuteness. From egg hunts to giggles galore, it was a day full of springtime joy and sweet memories!
Fourth and Fifth Graders Spring Into Action for a Cleaner Earth
Our 4th grade classes had an awesome time celebrating Earth Day by going on a neighborhood clean-up walk! We put on our gloves, grabbed our trash bags, and worked together to pick up littler from the sidewalks and grassy areas. It felt great to help make our community cleaner and greener! Not only did we show how much we care about the Earth, but we also had fun working as a team and making a big difference right where we live.
Understanding Cinco De Mayo
Contrary of popular belief, Cinco de Mayo doesn't commemorate Mexican independence. Cinco de Mayo, which means "Fifth of May" in Spanish, is a holiday that celebrates the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, it has grown into a larger celebration of Mexican culture and heritage in the United States. People mark the day with festive music, dancing, traditional foods, and colorful decorations. It's a time to honor the strength, pride, and vibrant traditions of the Mexican community through food, art, and poetry that reflect the richness of the culture.
