Superintendent’s Message
I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible work we are doing—together—to ensure our students have the safe, innovative, and inspiring learning environments they deserve.
I appreciate the strong commitment from our State and Local leaders in supporting the ongoing development and maintenance of the school buildings our students and families rely on every day. Their investment is helping us build for today while planning for the future.
Across the district, several major projects are underway that will shape the educational landscape for years to come. We are eagerly anticipating the opening of Green Valley and Valley elementary schools for the 2025-26 school year. Both projects are replacing existing buildings. Looking further ahead, a replacement Yellow Springs Elementary is scheduled to open for the 2026-27 school year.
We’re also thrilled to see the rapid progress on the design for Elementary School #41, thanks in large part to the unwavering support of our elected officials, including Governor Wes Moore, County Executive Jessica Fitzwater and State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Carey Wright. Their partnership has been instrumental in helping us move forward at a rapid pace.
We are committed to building on this momentum—working hand-in-hand with families, staff, and community leaders—to ensure every student learns in a space that fosters success, creativity, and a sense of belonging.
Dr. Dyson

FCPS Awarded Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting
FCPS has earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 17th year in a row. This honor recognizes school districts that uphold the highest standards of financial reporting and transparency.
FCPS earned the Certificate of Excellence for its exemplary annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. Participation in the COE program highlights a school district’s dedication to financial accountability.
Submitted ACFRs are rigorously reviewed by a panel of experienced financial professionals, who provide constructive feedback to further enhance the quality of future reports. Districts that meet the program’s stringent requirements are awarded the Certificate of Excellence, a distinction that also supports bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.

FCPS News
End of School Year Update
Now that the weather is warming, we are most likely past potential inclement weather closures for the 2024-25 school year.
Thus, we can announce Thursday, June 12, is the last day of school for students in the 2024-25 school year. Schools will close 2-hours early for students on Thursday, June 12.
Inclement weather make-up dates
FCPS closed schools for four days this year due to inclement weather:
Monday, January 6
Tuesday, January 7
Thursday, February 6
Wednesday, February 12
Those closure dates make Monday, June 9, Tuesday, June 10, Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12 inclement weather make-up days to ensure FCPS completes 180 days of instruction as mandated by the Maryland State Department of Education.
The print calendar handbook sent home to families lists Friday, June 6, as a 2-hour early dismissal date. With these adjustments to the calendar, there is no longer a 2-hour early dismissal on Friday, June 6.
Friday, June 6 will now be a full-day of instruction for students.
Note for employees: The last day of school for teachers is Friday, June 13. 10-month staff with questions about their last day should contact their supervisors.
