Beyond Academics: Cultivating Character and Community at Tilden
Greetings from a bustling Tilden Middle School, where every day brings new opportunities for growth, learning, and community building! Time has flown by, and we've already reached the mid-way mark of the first marking period after just five exciting weeks of school! This milestone brings important updates for our families:
1. Interim Progress Reports: Teachers have submitted interims today. These reports are now available to parents and students through ParentVUE and StudentVUE in Synergy. For households without an active ParentVUE account, reports will be sent via USPS.
2. Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration: As we continue to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, I shared with our students via my Monday message the beautiful tradition of "sobremesa" - a practice of families and friends spending quality time together after meals, sharing stories and enjoying each other's company. This tradition beautifully aligns with our P.A.C.K.S. core values, emphasizing the importance of being present, respectful, and attentive listeners.
3. Upcoming Homeroom Lessons: In our commitment to fostering a positive school culture and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, we've planned a series of engaging homeroom lessons for Marking Period 1 (until November 5th). These lessons will cover:
- Hispanic Heritage Month (October 2nd)
- Identity exploration and community building (October 9th)
- No Place for Hate Door Decorating Contest preparation (October 16th)
- Native American Heritage Month recognition (October 30th)
4. Fun/Wellness Day: Mark your calendars for October 17th, when students will participate in our Fun/Wellness Day, including the creation of No Place for Hate doors.
We are excited about these upcoming events and lessons that celebrate our diverse community and promote inclusivity. Your engagement in these activities at home can greatly enhance your child's learning experience.
As we move forward, I am continually inspired by the dedication of our students, the support of our families, and the passion of our staff. Each of you contributes to the warm, inclusive environment that makes Tilden special. Here's to another fantastic month of learning, growing, and celebrating together!
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

Cluster Announcements
Please SAVE November 12, 2024, as Trinity Lutheran Church, N Bethesda, is inviting you, your staff, student parents, and youth to an educational program on teen mental health presented by a speaker from EveryMind at 7:30 pm. The program is open to everyone, and it will be approximately 60 minutes long. Light refreshments will be offered. Free parking is available in the church’s parking lot.
Based on a description of the program from EveryMind, here is what you should know:
Mental health challenges impacting youth have led to higher rates of suicidality and diminishing mental wellness. It is essential for individuals with youth in their lives to know when and how to provide extra support and, in some cases, seek additional help. In this training, participants will learn and understand current data on youth mental health, early signs and symptoms to be aware of, and supportive communication tools. Learn strategies to communicate with and support the youth in your life from knowledgeable professionals.
Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 11200 Old Georgetown Road, N Bethesda, MD 20852. Information about Trinity can be found at Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA) - North Bethesda, MD (trinity elca.org)
