Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th to October 15th, by celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central, and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover 30 days, beginning on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988. September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.
Stop by the Library to check out a book from our Hispanic Heritage Month book display or participate in a digital book tasting. We will also be having a door decorating competition highlighting various aspects of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Digital Learning Day
Friday, September 20th is a digital learning day. Please check your eClass pages for your assignments for the day.
Constitution Day
To commemorate Constitution Day, students read the Constitution's seven articles either through gallery walk. videos, or by reading the textbook. They have already learned about the Bill of Rights and will study the amendments in more depth later. Certain classes will be able to watch a naturalization ceremony or programs from organizations like the National Constitution Center and/or the Bill of Rights Institute on Constitution Day while completing our daily instruction.
