Youth Truth Survey- Input needed from families!
Woodburn School District has partnered with the national nonprofit, YouthTruth, to help us hear feedback from you about what we are doing well, and how we can improve. The Youth Truth Survey is an important way for stakeholders- Families, Students and Staff to provide feedback about how we are doing at WHS, and what our direction should be as a school.
The survey asks questions about engagement, relationships, communication, safety and expectations, as well as other related topics. You will also have an opportunity to share written feedback.
The family survey can be accessed here or by using the QR code. The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, and is available in English, Spanish and Russian. When taking the survey, please note that it must be completed all at once- there is not a way to save your progress for later.
Your response is anonymous and will be combined with responses from other families at our school. Thank you for your feedback!

Class of 2024: Graduation Requirements and Class of 2024 Website
Parents of senior students, please take a moment to check in with your child regarding their progress towards meeting graduation requirements. If there are concerns about their graduation status, we will be reaching out to you in the near future to discuss a plan of action. All graduation requirements must be fulfilled by May 31st for students to participate in the graduation ceremony. There will be no petition to participate with incomplete requirements. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your student's counselor or to Duane Sinn (dsinn@woodburnsd.org), our admin for grade 12.
The Senior website is now live here and on the Woodburn High School website. Visit the site for important updates on upcoming events and dates for seniors. We've also included a form on the website for seniors to provide input on the 2024 Senior Class Trip destination.
Oregon State Assessments: Parent Opt-Out Form
The State of Oregon ELPA Test started on February 12th for all ELL students.
Oregon State Assessment Tests for Math, ELA and Science will be happening in April for students in 11th grade. The 30 day Notice and Opt-Out Forms are below:
- 30 Day Testing Notice for Oregon State Testing
- Aviso de 30 días sobre los exámenes estatales de Oregón
- Уведомление за 30 дней о проведении тестирования в штате Орегон
Be aware that participation and test proficiency levels on the State Test can count toward English Proficiency scores for the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy. By opting your student out, they may have to participate in additional testing their senior year in order to meet English proficiency requirements for the Seal of Biliteracy.
Career Connections Day
We had a great turn out for Career Connections day on Feb 12th. Representatives from Women in Construction shared information about pathways into fields such as Civil Engineering, Construction Glaziers Apprenticeships, Construction equipment rentals and Sheet Metal Apprenticeships.
Former student and Civil Engineer Jazmin Madrigal spoke of her journey into the engineering field and Western Oregon University presented on their Nationally recognized Nursing Program. All in all we had several hundred students attend and learn more about various post secondary pathways.
Athletics Update!
Winter sports are wrapping up and many successes have been celebrated. WHS Wrestling program was able to send three wrestlers on to the State Wrestling Tournament, Congratulations to Emily Grassham, Carl Price and Orion Madrigal. WHS swimming sent Mark Seledkov to the Swimming State Meet. Congratulations to Mark!
The WHS Boys Basketball team has gone back to back as MWC league Champs. On Friday, 3/1, we hosted a first round playoff game vs Caldera high school from Bend and won, 70-48. The OSAA bracketed state tournament will start on March 6th at Linfield University in McMinnville, where we will play No. 5 West Albany to start.
Spring sports have started their first week of practice, so anyone still interested should come to the Athletic Office and see what sports are still open. Contests will begin the week of March 11th

Counseling Department News and Updates
Forecasting Coming Soon for Grades 9-11
This week, students reviewed their transcripts and updated their plan and profile in anticipation of forecasting for classes for the 24-25 school year.
Over the next week, students will learn about opportunities and courses available to them and they will select their elective choices for next school year. We recommend looking over your student's transcript with them, to help determine which classes to select during forecasting.
Students who are missing credits should be connecting with their counselor to create a plan.

Oregon Promise Grant (pays for up to two years at any community college in Oregon)
Seniors with at least a 2.00 GPA (or are very close to it), go to www.oregonstudentaid.gov, create a profile, and then apply for the Oregon Promise Grant. Register using a personal email address.
Your high school is Woodburn High School (previously called Wellness, Business, Sports School).
I will verify your GPA for you. You don’t need to upload your transcript.
To receive the grant you also have to complete either the FAFSA or ORSAA.
FAFSA - Go to www.studentaid.gov.
Seniors, create your account and FSA ID. Once you have your FSA ID you can begin the application process. Use your full legal name and a personal email address.
Students should start the application process first, not the parent. This is very important and will help avoid confusion and delays.
At least one parent will also have to create their own account/FSA ID (the FAFSA application will help students determine which parent or parents need to complete their part). Parents must use their own email address, not the students. If a parent already has an FSA ID, they SHOULD NOT create a new one. Doing so will only create confusion and delays.
Make sure you are applying for the 2024-25 school year.
IMPORTANT: students whose parents don’t have a social security number are continuing to have difficulty completing the FAFSA. This technical issue will hopefully be fixed by mid-March.
ORSAA - Students not eligible for the FAFSA can complete the ORSAA at www.oregonstudentaid.gov
Chemeketa Early College High School - 10th & 11th graders with at least a 3.00 GPA and good attendance will be emailed soon about the Chemeketa Early College High School program and a presentation happening on April 10th.
Make sure you are signed up for the College & Career Center Google Classroom and log in at least once or twice a week so you don’t miss out on important announcements, field trips, guest speakers and scholarship opportunities. Parents can sign up too.
