Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 1 | 10 October 2024
Ondine Komnick | Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to the final term of this academic year. It is a short and busy 9 week term. We have swimming lessons, the wrapping up of assessment for reporting, Year 6 graduation, the Annual Community Meeting and Christmas Carols Concert to name but a few events.
We informed you last term that we will be sending out our newsletter on Friday of each week. This is to set parents up with information for the week ahead. The newsletter is going out today, a day before our scheduled day as there is important information about the Colour Run tomorrow that needs to be communicated.
Annual Community Meeting
Our Annual Community Meeting will take place on Monday 4th of November at 6pm in our school’s undercover area. We invite and encourage all parents and carers to attend. There will be a draw for several free booklists as a door prize, one entry per family attending and our wonderful P&F are providing snacks and drinks after the meeting.
New Assistant Principal
We warmly welcome Antonio Muto who will be standing in for Alison Ryan while she is on maternity leave. Antonio joins our school community in Week 5 this term. I know you will make him feel most welcome.
Bookclub
Mrs Bowring will be running a bookclub for students in Years 3-6 on a Thursday at lunch. Interested students can sign up in the library.
Library Open
Our library will now be open during lunch for students to come into this wonderful space to read or engage in some mindful colouring. Mrs Mahar is facilitating this opportunity for our students.
Events
We commence our school term with Mass on Friday to which all parents/carers are invited to attend. We encourage parents to come and support their children at the Colour Run which commences at 1.45pm on Friday. We always need some extra hands to help spray the children with Colour. If you are able to help on the day, please contact the P&F on olomPFcommittee@cewa.edu.au
Students Leaving
If your child will not be continuing their education at our school in 2025, please email the front office on admin@olom.wa.edu.au to let us know as we have a waitlist of students in some year groups who would like to enrol at our school.
Reflection
Last week was the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of the environment and animals. I think it is fitting that we start the term by reflecting on these wise words from St Francis.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not seek to be consoled as to console,
not so much to be understood as to understand,
not so much to be loved as to love,
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned.
God bless you all.

Wow - look what we grew!
Year 1 are thrilled with their crop of potatoes, as they learn about what plants need to grow. Such a great outdoor learning opportunity for the children!
