CSMA Adviser Update

J-DAY PREP ISSUE
We are so excited to welcome everyone to J-Day on October 1. The weather reports look fantastic and the speaker lineup is impressive. This newsletter has details for the 1400+ registered participants!
J-DAY TRANSPORTATION & PARKING
Carpooling and Private Vehicles
Vehicle parking will be available for the day.
Euclid Parking Garage
1725 Euclid Ave.
Boulder, CO 80309
This lot is near the UMC and CASE buildings, where a majority of our activities will take place. It is a 10 minute walk from Macky Auditorium, where our day will start and end. Please plan your arrival time accordingly. The opening starts at 8:30AM.
All registered advisers will receive an email on Monday with the parking code to be used on Tuesday.
Buses
Buses will be able to drop off and pick up at Macky Auditorium. Off-site parking will be provided for buses during the day. Specific details will be provided to registered advisers on Monday morning.
REGISTRATION/CHECK IN
Meet Me at Macky!
We have over 1400 students and advisers registered for J-Day this year. We will be opening the doors by 8:00 and will begin our first session at 8:30. Our Check-In table will be located in the foyer at Macky Auditorium. Advisers will check in to receive materials, name badges, and student wristbands. Students will be able to find seats in the auditorium and can do a digital check in using their personal devices.

Awards
We will recognize our 2024 Adviser and Administrator of the Year. We will also recognize a special guest with the CSMA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Keynote Speaker - Savannah Sellers
BREAKOUT SESSIONS
We will offer four different breakout opportunities. Presenters include professional journalists, college professors, and expert advisers from all over Colorado. Most sessions will be 40 minutes long with a few sessions planned in double blocks. The full schedule will be emailed to advisers on Thursday, posted on the CSMA website, and will be available digitally on the day of the event.
CAMPUS TOURS AND FACILITY OPPORTUNITIES
Your Chance to See Campus
All tours will meet on the north patio of the UMC building and will depart 2-3 minutes after the session starting time.
CAMPUS TOURS: During all four breakout sessions. This general campus tour will be led by CU Student Ambassadors.
CMCI TOURS: During the first and third breakout sessions. This tour will take you through the building the houses the CMCI department and will include a look at the facilities available to CU students in the CMCI department.
ESPORTS GAMING ROOM: During all four breakout sessions. This tour will showcase the Alienware Buffalo Esports Gaming Lounge (https://www.colorado.edu/involvement/gaming-lounge) will a specific focus on the broadcasting facilities that are available. Come find out about the opportunities for journalistic reporting in the growing area of esports.
ATHLETIC FACILITY TOUR: This tour is limited and students must have pre-registered. Tour tickets and meet location will be in the registration envelope that advisers will receive when checking in.
LUNCH
Students can choose to eat at any time during the day. Some students will choose take a break from sessions in order to eat. Others might choose to snack between sessions so that they can attend breakouts during all four time slots. It is up to you to make your day work.
CU Catering Boxed Lunch
CU Catering will be offering boxed lunches for purchase starting at 10:30 (breakout session 2). Lunches will be $10/person. This will be a cashless setup, so please bring a credit or debit card for lunch purchases. Advisers: Please contact Jed Palmer if your number of students purchasing lunch has changed significantly since you did your reservation.
BYO Lunch
Students can also choose to bring lunch. The weather looks like it will be great day for a picnic.
CLOSING SESSION @ 1:10PM - 2:00PM
We will end our day back in Macky Auditorium where we will announce the winners of our Best of Show contest and will also announce the All-Colorado Critique results.
Best of Show
The Best of Show competitions were open to all member publications that had students registered for J-Day prior to the submission deadline. All submissions are in the hands of judges now. Winners will be announced at the JDay closing session.
All Colorado Critiques
The results are back on all of our publication critiques for the 2023-24 school year. We will make the first public announcements of the critique results at our closing session. Schools that are attending J-Day will receive their critique certificate. Schools that are not able to attend will receive their certificate in the mail over the next few weeks.
OFFICE HOURS
Just a reminder that CSMA continues to work for you all year. Here is a brief rundown of what is happening this month:
- J-Day on Oct. 1. See you in Boulder.
- Invoices! Schools that chose to pay for membership or JDay by check will be receiving invoices for unpaid fees. Watch your emails.
-Membership rosters will be updated all month. This is a good time to remind you that the registration link for the 24-25 school year is still active. RENEW NOW.
