Lowell Lantern
Week of March 11--March 15, 2019
WE ARE LOWELL
Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Lowell Families,
It is hard to believe that we have one more week before our spring intersession. We have a lot to accomplish during this week. Teachers are finalizing projects and preparing grades for report cards. In addition, our 3rd grade students will be taking the IREAD-3 Assessment next Tuesday and Wednesday. We have a very short window of time to give this important assessment so it is imperative that all students are at school and on time.
Remember to help your child be ready for this important assessment by:
Making sure your child is well-rested each night
Making sure your child eats a healthy breakfast at home or at school
Eliminating stress during testing days
Letting your child know that you believe in him/her and encouraging best effort
Please remember to adjust your clocks one hour ahead before going to bed Saturday night due to Daylight Savings Time. This will ensure students are on time to school on Monday.
Our 3rd Quarter CORE Celebration will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019. If you are able to volunteer for part or all of the celebration, please complete the included form and return to school on Monday. Or you can call the front office to let us know your availability. We appreciate your help and couldn’t do it without you!
We are on spring break the weeks of March 18 and March 25. It is important for students to be at school every day leading up to spring break. Teachers are working hard to wrap up quarterly projects and assessments in preparation for report cards that will be coming home on Friday, March 15.
Have a great weekend and enjoy your time with your children!
Mrs. Griffin
IREAD-3 TESTING
3rd Graders will take the IREAD-3 Assessment during the week of March 11- 15. This is a critical statewide standardized assessment. The Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD-3) assessment measures foundational reading standards to Grade 3 students each spring. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with House Enrolled Act 1367 (also known as Public Law 109 in 2010). For further information on IREAD-3 you may visit the IDOE website at
