Weather Delays/Cancellations

Cancellations and school delays will be announced on social media and local TV and radio stations. If school is delayed, we will start at 10:30 any day of the week. If school is cancelled, the announcement will include information about whether the day will be an eLearning Day. Students have 5 school days to complete eLearning assignments.

Annual GMS Food Drive

November 18-26, 2019 is the annual GMS Food Drive!

The items donated support families in need in our school and other schools in our district. The food drive will run the entire week before Thanksgiving Break and Monday and Tuesday leading up to the break.

The top five donating FIRST PERIOD classes in the school will receive Dunkin Donuts! The types of food items needed in the food bank are…

ONLY CANNED ITEMS, NO GLASS because the food bags go home on the buses.

Rice

Cereal

Peanut butter or Jelly in a plastic jar

Pancake mix, Syrup

Need a coat? Have a coat to share?

The annual Goshen Community Schools Coat Drive is underway. If you have coats to donate, please leave them in the collection box in the GMS Welcome Center.

Please contact your child's school counselor or Mrs. Herschberger if you need help with providing winter outerwear for your child.

Staff Spotlight:

Mrs. Clawson is in her 3rd year of teaching English Language Learners at GMS. She grew up in Goshen and attended both Waterford Elementary School and Clinton Christian School. Mrs. Clawson, formerly known as Miss Showalter, has been married for just over a year. One of her favorite things about GMS is the diversity. She loves learning about her students and their cultures in daily conversations as well as special activities, such as Hispanic Heritage Month and the Dia de los Muertos showcase. Mrs. Clawson enjoys watching her students participating in sports, riding motorcycles with her husband, and going on weekend getaways to different towns.

Calling All Geography Experts!

If your child is interested in geography and wants to compete in our school geography bee, please ask him/her to stop by Room 202 for more information or email Mr. Bontrager at abontrager@goshenschools.org. The deadline to join the team is Tuesday, November 26th.

Making Friends Around the World

Students in Ms. Xu's Mandarin class have connected with penpals from China. They are receiving letters from new friends at Yingge Middle School in Wuhan City, China and Hebei Chengde No. 1 Middle school near the capital city of Beijing. GMS students are working hard to compose emails back to their new Chinese friends using their knowledge of the Mandarin language. Great job, students!

Writing Mentor for Students

Students in Mr. Leaman’s New Tech English Class have a writing mentor! Jenn Bishop has partnered with 6-2 English classes as a part of a Twitter initiative #KidsNeedMentors. So far, Jenn has written the classes a letter, asking each student to respond. Students sent letters back in early November and just received a package of signed books for the classroom library. Jenn is responding to each of the 130 students who wrote her a letter or recorded a flip grid video to introduce themselves. The plan is to continue developing this relationship, and everyone involved is hoping for an in-person visit this spring! Jenn Bishop has published two novels for Middle School aged students and has a new book coming out in March.

News From Mrs. Bickel's Class

Mrs. Bickel's Science students have been creating atomic structures during the past two weeks. Thanks to parents for supporting your students in finding supplies and time to work at home. Students also spent some time playing "Periodic Table Battleship" to reinforce their learning about the periodic table.

Be Balanced and Demonstrate Agency

The IB Learner Profile Attribute of the month for November is: Balanced. Balanced learners understand the importance of intellectual, physical, and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others.

New Tech learners demonstrate agency by building relationships with trusted adults and peers to enhance learning. They identify their own role in ups and downs of the classroom and home community.

Ask your child how s/he has demonstrated balance and agency this month!
