The Falcon Flash
March 2025
Dear Skamania Families,
Spring is a time for renewal, and here at Skamania School, it’s also a time for exciting events and opportunities to come together as a school community. We have a busy month ahead, and I’m thrilled to share the details with you!
Reading Month – March
We are excited to announce our Read-a-thon fundraiser for the month of March! Each student will aim to read 300 minutes, and we’re challenging our school to raise $2,000 for ASB (Associated Student Body) through sponsorships. Please encourage your child to not only read but also to seek out sponsors who will support their reading efforts.
To celebrate everyone’s hard work, we’ll host a schoolwide Lights Out Pajama Party on March 21st, where students will read together by flashlight for one hour. It will be a fun way to wrap up the event! You can support the Read-a-thon by making donations here: Read-a-thon Fundraiser.
Also, remember our reading-themed spirit days each Friday for the month of March (see below).
Finally, we are proud to once again partner with North Bank Books for this year's book fair from March 24-28. Please come support our local bookstore and help earn books for our school's library!
March 10 – Early Release
Just a reminder that we will have an early release day on March 10 at 12:30 PM due to the end of the 2nd trimester. Please plan accordingly.
Combined PTO Meeting & Meet the Board – March 11 at 5:00 PM
We’re kicking off the month with a special combined event featuring both our Skamania School PTO meeting and a Meet the Board session. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow parents, meet our school board members, and share feedback about the future of our school. After the regular monthly PTO meeting, we’ll host a School Board Meet & Greet where you can ask questions and engage in meaningful conversations. Childcare will be provided, so parents can enjoy the evening without worry. While no RSVP is necessary to attend, please do let us know if you plan to eat or need childcare so we can be sure to have enough for everyone. RSVP here: Meet the Board Facebook Event
Snow Makeup Day – March 14
School will be in session on March 14 as part of our snow makeup days.
St. Patrick’s Day Treats – March 17
Our PTO’s Sunshine Committee will be treating students and staff to a special surprise in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day!
Family Skate Night – March 21, 5:00-7:00 PM
Join us for our first-ever Family Skate Night, hosted by the PTO! The event will take place at in the Skamania School gym, with $1 entry and concessions available for purchase. Also, signed waivers are required for each skater and will be available onsite at time of entry. Our book fair will also be set up for a special preview night for those who attend. It promises to be a fun evening for all ages!
Spring Conferences – March 24-28
Conference Week is coming up! We will have early release at 12:30 PM each day during conference week. Be sure to watch for conference sign-up information, and please sign up as soon as possible if you’d like to meet with your child’s teacher.
Spring Break – March 31-April 4
Spring Break is just around the corner! There will be no school from March 31 to April 4. We hope you enjoy the time to relax and recharge.
STEAM Night – April 16
Lastly, be sure to mark your calendars for STEAM Night on April 16. We’ll have more details to share soon, but we’re already excited about this hands-on, interactive event that will showcase science, technology, engineering, arts, and math activities for the whole family.

Star Students of the Month
February's character trait of the month was perseverance! Perseverance is about staying determined and focused, even when faced with challenges or setbacks. Throughout the month, our teachers encouraged students to push through difficulties and keep striving towards their goals, no matter how tough things may get.
We are excited to recognize students who consistently demonstrated remarkable perseverance. Below, we proudly highlight one exceptional student from each class who exemplified outstanding determination and resilience in their efforts. Congratulations to these amazing individuals!
TK/K - James W.

4th - Abigail M.
5/6 - Tabitha N.
7/8 - Wyett R-S.
Updates from the School...
- If your child is absent, please call or email the school office to excuse them. This applies even if the child was sent home sick the day prior. We have state requirements for tracking and reporting excused and unexcused absences. Thank you!
- Attention bus riders: If your child rides the bus daily and you intend to pick them up instead, please inform the office as early as possible.
- Please dress your child for the weather. We try to go outside most days- rain or shine. Also, please remember to wear PE-appropriate shoes on PE days (every day but Wednesday and other early dismissal days.)
- Please contact the office if your child is supposed to ride the bus home with another student or get off at another student's stop. We do not have much (if any) extra room on the bus for additional riders. We also like to hear from a parent on both sides to make sure everyone is on the same page.
- Cell phones must remain in backpacks during the school day. Phones that are taken out will be held in the office until the end of the day.
- Gum is not allowed at school. Please help to remind your child of this policy.
Big News for Our School!
We are thrilled to announce that our small but mighty school ranked 16th in the state in the most recent Prodigy Math Challenge!
Prodigy is an engaging, game-based learning platform that helps students practice math in a fun and interactive way. Students from all across the state competed, and we're incredibly proud of our students' hard work, dedication, and teamwork to achieve such a fantastic result!
A huge shoutout to our students, teachers, and families for supporting each other throughout this challenge. Your perseverance and passion for learning make all the difference!
Let’s keep up the great work and continue to aim higher!
Support for Families with Children Ages 0-5
What is Child Developmental Screening?
Children are screened in the areas of motor, concepts, speech and language. A hearing and vision screening may also be done. A developmental screening can identify children who are in need of further evaluation and/or participation in Early Intervention or Early Childhood Services that address their areas of need.
Early Intervention (EI) Benefits
- Early identification and implementation of services during the most crucial time in your child’s brain development.
- Services are designed for children in the natural environment of their homes, in child care, or in preschool programs.
- Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is a written plan for services to eligible children and families.
- Transition Plan prior to age 3 is a plan developed for your child when leaving early intervention at age three.
Skamania School District is part of the ESA, making these services available to our families. Please visit this link for more information: https://www.esd112.org/category/programs/early-intervention/
