Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Congratulations to our Year 4 students who made their First Communion last Sunday. It was a beautiful celebration and many thanks to Mrs Davis, Mrs Komnick and Mrs Robinson for organising. Also thank you to Monsignor for celebrating the Mass on the day.
Unfortunately, due to parking issues with families and residents on York Street near the new Kindy building, the City of South Perth has advised that the school is going to have to provide seven parking bays at our cost as extra parking. At this stage, three will be onsite and four will be embayed into the verge. This means that the playground will lose some of its play area. How much is still to be determined. Once the City of South Perth has made its final decision I will advise families as to what the changes will look like. This will take some months.
A reminder that the start of Term 3 Monday 22 July is a pupil free day. Students start on Tuesday 23 July.
God Bless

Curriculum-based activities to develop skills.
Mr Chatt shows us how it’s done!
Girls’ Robotics Group
Our Girls’ Robotics Group are programming their robots to dance to Moana at the RoboCup WA State Competition in August. It’s challenging work – but lots of fun!
Science Lego Challenge
Engineering, ingenuity and creative flair were on display at the Science Lego Competition! We are so proud of all our students developing into real-world problem solvers.
We had all sorts of challenges: marble runs; tree houses that withstand a big drop; a spaceship to get back home from Mars; and a bridge that can withstand a cyclone.
Well done to all the winners!
Artist of the Week
Harry from Year 2 is the Artist of the Week. He was chosen for his beautiful Bronwyn Bancroft inspired platypus artwork. Harry's favourite thing about his piece is the patterns. He loves art because he enjoys drawing lots of different animals.

Callout for a Composter or Worm Farm
The Waste Wise team are looking for a compost bin, compost Tumbler or a Worm Farm. If you have one sitting in your yard at home and it is not being used, we would love to utilise it for our organic waste. In turn, the composted matter will be used to create veggie and garden patches.
PLASTIC FREE JULY: Making a small change will collectively make a massive difference to our communities. Find alternatives that can become new habits forever!

Phillip Pendal Awards Night
This year, several students from St Columba’s entered the Phillip Pendal Young Heritage Award competition. To enter, students needed to take a photo of an historical place in the City of South Perth and write a report about it.
Last Thursday, 20 June, seven of our students were awarded prizes at the Phillip Pendal Young Heritage Awards Night. Dinuli, Remy, Ruby, Xavier, Sophia and Madeline won Certificates of Merit. Scarlett won the major prize for primary school students. Scarlett’s win resulted in the school receiving two books, donated by the Pendal Family.
Congratulations to all to all of these students.
Parish News
Congratulations to all the First Holy Communicants. A special thank you to Mrs Davis, Mrs Komnick and Mrs McDonald, and the School Choir, and altar servers. Thank you to all the staff who helped and to those who assisted on the day.
I am so pleased that so many are interested in the Altar Serving training session that Mrs Collins is organising for Saturday, 3 August at 3pm.
At least three families responded to my request to consider purchasing a copy of the Parish history “One Hundred Years on Barney’s Hill”. They are always available in the Church, $20 per copy. Also available are the hard covered, spiral bound parish books with the engaging photo of Pope Francis at prayer on the cover. They are only $15 per copy. My thanks to Nicole Hartanto, whose mother arranged their printing and each copy contains our School Prayer.
May God bless you all.
