Mary Hogan Family Newsletter
Update from Principal Jen Kravitz
5/11/24
Dear Mary Hogan Families,
It is a busy time of the year as we come towards the end of the school year, so please take a look at the calendar below for events - and be on the look out in your emails for information about field trips from your child's teacher.
Yesterday, the 1st grade celebrated beach day. This was part of their end of school alphabet days, counting down the days til the end of school with something related to the letter of the alphabet each day. So Thursday was A, Friday B and Monday will be C. If I am counting correctly, somehow this means there are 24 days left of school! Holy moly! We will pack in a lot of fun as well as community building so that classes can end the year the way they began - building community and connections.
This week also marked the week our 5th grade students went to Keewaydin Environmental Education Camp (KEEC). This is a long tradition at Mary Hogan and is so much fun and learning for students. The week takes a lot of planning and help by teachers, staff, and families. Check out the Instagram account to see some of the photos from this week - and more will be coming next week!
We also had other things going on:
- Visitors from NEASC and IB who came to learn more about Mary Hogan and ACSD.
- Dr. Haslam met with 1st-4th grade students as part of the Listening Circles Project. Preschool, Kindergarten, and 5th graders who have permission will meet with her on 5/22.
- 3rd graders walked around MIddlebury on a bridge tour.
- Preschool went to PAHCC to visit their green houses.
- Everyone enjoyed the work from last week's Green Up Clean Up with new sandboxes out front. More to come in this project soon!
Of course there was a lot more this week, so check it out below!
Be well,
Jen

Volunteering for End-of-Year Activities and Field Trips
If you’re interested in volunteering for end-of-year activities and field trips, now is the time to register to volunteer! It takes a few weeks for background checks, so please start the process now with this volunteer form to ensure you’re approved. If you think you are approved already but are not currently volunteering regularly at school, it is probably a good idea to double check with Lorrie to make sure everything is all set. Once you are approved, you will be emailed at the beginning of each school year to remain an active volunteer.

KEEC
The 5th grade goes each year for a week to KEEC. There, they learn how to be in community day and night, while digging into the amazing resources around us in VT. The students hiked, climbed, cooked, created a skit, swam and more during this great adventure. Ask a 5th grader what they loved most and what was hardest in this awesome and intense week of learning!
