A Great Start to the School Year!
We are thrilled to share that the school year is off to a fantastic start! Our students are actively engaged, learning, and growing each day. The first quarter wraps up on October 30, and we’re grateful for your continued support in making this a successful start.
Report Cards
First-quarter report cards will be sent home on November 13. Please review your child’s progress, and feel free to reach out to their teacher with any questions or concerns.

We are thrilled to announce that Carver Elementary School has been recognized by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for being in the top 50% of schools statewide in Math! 🏆📊

A Huge Thank You to Greystone Quarry and Fred’s Towing! 🦅
Carver Elementary would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Greystone Quarry for the generous donation of a beautiful boulder and to Fred’s Towing for delivering it safely to our school. We’re thrilled to transform this boulder into a special landmark where we’ll share news and upcoming events with our Carver family and community.
We are so grateful for your support in helping us make Carver a more engaging and connected place for everyone. Stay tuned to see the creative ways we put this to use!

Unity Day
Carver Elementary stood together in solidarity for Unity Day! Our students and staff proudly wore orange to show our commitment to creating a safe and kind environment for everyone. We are united in our efforts to stop bullying and promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Let’s continue to uplift one another and build a supportive school community.
Carver Elementary School Flag Barriers
A huge thank you to our dedicated flag bearers at Carver Elementary! Every morning and afternoon, they show responsibility and pride in raising and lowering our flag with care and respect. Their commitment doesn’t go unnoticed, and we appreciate their diligence in this important duty.
Principal Mrs. Rainey
Even though our resilient leader, Mrs. Rainey, wasn’t in the building for Unity Day, she still proudly wore orange in support of Unity Day and our shared commitment to kindness, inclusion, and standing against bullying. We’re grateful for her unwavering leadership, both near and far! As we celebrate Principal Appreciation Month in October, let’s take a moment to recognize the incredible impact she has on our school community every day. Thank you, Mrs. Rainey, for leading with heart, strength, and dedication!
iReady Weekly Champions
Shoutout to our amazing Carver Eagles who met or exceeded their iReady personalized instruction goal of 45 minutes in reading and/or math during the week of October 14-19! Their hard work and dedication to learning is paying off. We hope that they keep soaring to new heights!
Supply Donation
A huge thank you to Lucy Bullock for her generous donation of school supplies to Carver Elementary today! Mrs. Bullock, a proud alumna of Carver along with her husband, has been married for 51 years and felt inspired to give back to our students. She is a dedicated member of Brookston Baptist Church and loves supporting the community. We are so grateful for her kindness and generosity!
iReady Weekly Champions
Shoutout to our amazing Carver Eagles who met or exceeded their iReady personalized instruction goal of 45 minutes in reading and/or math and had a proficiency of 80% or higher during the week of October 21-25! Their hard work and dedication to learning is paying off. We hope that they keep soaring to new heights!
First Vote NC is back for the 2024 presidential election, with voting Oct. 17-Nov. 5, 2024!
First Vote NC is EdNC’s award-winning, online, simulated election experience for North Carolina students.
In previous years, educators have used First Vote NC to lead high school students through simulations in the 2016 presidential, 2017 municipal, 2018 midterm, 2019 municipal, and 2020 presidential elections.
In 2024, First Vote NC is available to all North Carolina K-12 students.
We encourage younger participants in First Vote NC to consult a parent, caregiver, teacher, faith leader, civic leader, or other grown-up if they need help casting their vote.

The STEM Presidential Awards Due February 6th

Volunteer Applications Available Online
If you have someone interested in becoming a volunteer, they can now complete the application online! It is also still available in paper form. The application can be accessed on the VCS website under Community...or the direct link to the online application is https://bit.ly/VolunteerVCS.
District Phone Calls
As a reminder, scheduled calls from the district (and schools) comes from 855-269-0502.
If a student is not receiving calls, they should update their information at the following link: https://bit.ly/vcsupdate. Data Managers will work to update information within Infinite Campus.
If a staff member is not receiving calls, please email Aarika Sandlin (asandlin@vcs.k12.nc.us) with your name, school, and phone number so that she can work to troubleshoot any issues.
The Henderson Christmas Parade
The Henderson Christmas Parade is just around the corner! Think of ways your school can participate and share your ideas with your principal! The parade will be on Saturday, December 7 at 3 pm! We look forward to a great showing by our schools!

Community Connections
Perry Memorial Library is seeking input from parents and community leaders about supporting and increasing the love of literacy in our community. They are gathering interested stakeholders at the library in their Makerspace for monthly meetings for listening and brainstorming sessions. The first one is October 29th 6-7pm. Governor's Schools Applications are Now Open
The application window is now open for the 2025 session of the North Carolina Governor's School! Review the program’s Family Overview (available in English and Spanish) to learn more about the school, student life, courses and more.
Students who wish to apply should contact their school counselors to learn more about the application process in their schools and school districts. Deadlines for the application differ at schools and districts around the state

Arts Alive Performers: Plan Now!
Are you thinking about preparing a group to audition for Arts Alive? Auditions are the week of March 3, so if you meet with a group once a week, you will only see them about 18-20 times before they audition so you will want to get started now. Let Mr. Markoch know that you are planning so he can hold an audition spot for you at your school.
