#HighcroftReads
Highcroft Ridge is teaming with the local public libraries to encourage summer reading!
The best way to keep your student on track is to encourage summer reading. Reading over the summer is important for all students.
Your student met St. Louis County Librarian, Ms. Trea, and learned about the summer reading program. The program begins May 20th and runs until August 3rd. Students can track their minutes on their log or online. Students must visit a county branch to submit their logs & collect their prizes. More information can be found below:
St. Louis County Library Summer Reading: www.slcl.org/summer-reading
St. Louis Public Library Summer Reading: https://www.slpl.org
Parkway Summer Reading List: www.parkwayschools.net/Page/4901
Be sure to keep up with your public library reading logs, as there are even awesome incentives available at your local branch. In addition, any student that brings his or her completed reading log or completion certification to Mrs. Stilts the first week of school in August will be invited to a special summer reading celebration hosted by Ms. Yelton and Mrs. Stilts!
Most importantly, let’s enjoy some great books and GROW as READERS this summer!

Summer is Coming! Continue to READ!!!
Please encourage your child to read AT LEAST 20 minutes per day to maintain their reading skills over the summer to avoid the all-too-common SUMMER SLIDE and “Brain Drain”! This summer slide is NO FUN! It is when children lose their progress in reading (and other subjects) and return to school in the fall BELOW GRADE LEVEL!
Share what you are reading, read to your child(ren) and discuss books thoroughly. Ask your child questions like, “What was the problem? What was the solution? What was their favorite part?” Read in the car, on a trip, in a tree, on the beach, in the sun, in the shade, in your bed, on the couch, just read, read, read, read!
Reading for only 20 minutes each day can keep your child at or above grade level. Keep track with the St. Louis County Library’s Summer Reading Program (A representative came to visit us in the library on Monday, May 13th. Thank you, Mrs. Stilts!) Ask your child about fun prizes the County Library will be giving away to summer readers!
