I was in the hallway this morning talking with Mr. Henrichs about our day yesterday and I heard a lot of outstanding and sincere greetings being given out. I had a student walk by and say "Good morning Mr. McCloskey" and I turned and realized I let him go by without a greeting from me. I want you to hold me accountable for greeting students if you see me fail to greet a student = it's an important variable to our culture. One other area I'm going to really focus on is when I'm dealing with difficult parents I'm going to try and ignore more than I typically have in the past because my inherent temperament and stubbornness sometimes gets the best of me :) I love "sideling" angry parents and watching their reaction :)
With the idea of "ongoing PD" in mind, many of you are familiar with a "Blackboard" forum from your own professional development or extended learning opportunities. In speaking with Todd yesterday at lunch, we need to keep the conversations going from our PD opportunities to make the biggest impact on our culture; I completely agree. One of the classes I took this Summer operates under this same principle - ongoing PD and support is needed to avoid the learned material from being forgotten. This class sends me reminders every other day for 8 months to keep the class material fresh in my mind and applicable. I love this idea.
I realize people need more or less supports based on their personality and comfort with different topics learned or discussed. This Blackboard document, located in our MS PLC Folder, is created with that in mind. Feel free to identify yourself in the document, or not, if you need additional supports as we continue to do great things with our culture and learn from one another.
