Announcements From the Prince(ipal's) Desk
PreK
PreK students have been learning about insects and puzzles. They are looking for new bugs on our playground daily! PreK has also been learning how to do puzzles with partners. We are practicing taking turns and collaborating to reach a common goal. Many students can now complete a puzzle independently as well.
1st Grade
2nd Grade
Second grade had the best time at our field trip to the WCS Health Fair! They were able to visit different stations where they learned about a new topic at each one from an Appalachian State Health Education student.
3rd Grade
Third grade had an amazing time at Grandfather Mountain this week learning more about landforms in the “Classroom in the Clouds” and visiting the animal habitats!
5th Grade
5th grade finished up their forces and motion unit with explore and apply your learning time and celebrated their attendance award by having a pajama/hat day.
6th Grade
On April 16, our sixth grade students had the opportunity to visit the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum. We enjoyed learning about artists and art from North Carolina, and we also had the opportunity to create our own paper art. We finished our day with a trip to the Blowing Rock Memorial Park where students ate lunch and had an amazing time playing in the park!
6th Grade ELA
As Mrs. DeHart's ELA students have been studying Greek and Roman mythology we have been exploring creative ways to demonstrate our learning. As we finished a reader's theater titled "Troy" students created movie posters either digitally or on paper that demonstrated the theme of the narrative.
7th Grade
7th grade partnered with second grade to read them story's they wrote about the ducks we are incubating.
Art
In Art class, after Clay Day, grades 4-8 have GLAZE DAAAY!! Their pottery will go in the kiln once more to fire the glaze and make their pottery waterproof and food safe.

Current 7th and 8th grade students at WCS GEAR Up Schools have an opportunity to participate with Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute and GEAR Up Summer Camp 2024: Outdoor Adventure Education Camp and/or Culinary Camp! Your student could benefit from staying connected with a fun and educational summer camp opportunity.

Information for all camps: Pick up and drop off will be at Caldwell Community College Watauga Campus each day. Drop off is between 7:45am-8:00am, and pick up is at 4:00pm. Free bus transportation from CCC&TI to the adventure sites will be provided. Free lunch and snacks will be provided daily.
Here are the details of our summer camps for 2024:
Culinary Camp:
Culinary Camp is a two-day camp and those are scheduled for Rising 8th graders: June 10th-11th and Rising 9th graders: June 12th -13th.
Come join Chef Robert @ CCCTI Watauga Campus and learn about careers in Culinary Arts and learn about kitchen safety, food and nutrition. Enjoy preparing and eating lunch and dinner. (if you student has food allergies PLEASE share this information in the registration form)
Outdoor Adventure Education Camp:
Adventure Education Camp will be: Rising 8th graders: June 24-27th or Rising 9th graders: July 8-11th. Gear Up Staff/Caldwell Community College Instructors are your guide to 4 days of outdoor adventure this Summer! Learn about nature, history, fitness, and develop new skills while hiking in the High Country, biking 17 miles on the VA Creeper Trail, rock climbing at Holloway Mountain near Boone, and kayaking on Lake Rhodhiss in Granite Falls. Transportation from the Watauga Campus and all equipment is provided. (your student must know how to ride a bike for the biking trails portion of this camp)
Space is limited- RSVP ASAP Registration closes: May 1, 2024
We will contact (email) you after the registration window closes to let you know if your student was able to secure a spot in the camp you selected.
