Short Avenue IB Learners Strive to Be...
Mr. Lamb's Updates
Happy Weekend Short Avenue Families and Friends!
I hope you all enjoyed the week here at Short Avenue. There were several wins, and a few challenges, but the highlight was the Walk and Roll to School event. I know this came up late and I know that for some of us on our way to work there is no other option than to drive and drop off. But for those who were able it was really fun to walk as a group showing our Short Ave Pride! The group that walked with me had parents and students and staff. Students enjoyed being with each other and it was an opportunity for families to connect. My schedule gets very busy but I am thinking that we can make this a monthly Short Ave activity. Please reach out and let me know if you like this idea and we will make it happen.
As shared last week we are making our push to 100% Short Ave with the LAUSD Parent Portal. We are currently at 86%. Congratulations to our families in Ms. Vicky’s class, Mrs. Chantarasompoth’s class, and Ms. Marina’s class - ALL FAMILIES IN THESE CLASSROOMS HAVE AT LEAST ONE FAMILY MEMBER REGISTERED!!!!! HUZZAH!!!! Letters went home Friday to the 14% of our families that need to register. Let’s get to 100% by Friday, October 18! Please reach out if you need assistance with the steps or even if you would like to use a computer in the Parent Center. We are here to support you.
To close out my message I direct your attention to a new section in our Weekly Wave - one that I hope goes away very soon - Updates on SEEDS Greening Project. This week we are putting a lengthy description of where we are overall with the process. In the coming weeks we will shorten and we will just add the latest news or updates as new steps and stages are met.
Please enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you Monday!

The SEEDS bidding/contract portion is in their last phase (scheduled for a 10/16 start) and the rest of the project is being completed in house by LAUSD PUC.

Birthday Policy
Families,
We want to remind you of our birthday party policy. In an effort to be equitable and keep our students healthy, we do NOT allow caregivers to send in cupcakes and treats for birthdays. While classes may organize celebrations for various occasions throughout the year, birthday parties should be held outside of school. Parents are welcome to arrange with the teacher to read a story in their child's class, or lead a fun birthday activity. Additionally, parents are welcome to donate something special to the class in honor of their child. We understand that birthdays are special , and every student and staff member will be recognized with a birthday song at our monthly assemblies.
