Week 26
2/27 - 3/3
Happy Montessori Education Week!
- The first "Montessori" style classroom was opened in 1907 by Maria Montessori in Rome and it was called Casa dei Bambini or "Children's House"
- Montessori came to the United States around 1912
- "Montessori believed that education had an important role in achieving world peace, stating in her 1936 book Education and Peace that "preventing conflicts is the work of politics; establishing peace is the work of education." She felt that children allowed to develop according to their inner laws of development would give rise to a more peaceful and enduring civilization."
- There are more than 5,000 Montessori Schools in the United States alone - there are over 20,000 across the globe!

Dr. Seuss Day!
Baba Marta
On March 1st, people gift each other with special red and white bracelets or "Martenitsas". These yarn bracelets are then carried around until the wearer first sees a bloom or blossoming tree where they are then tied to represent the blossoming spring!
Thank you Pauli for sharing this amazing tradition with us!
