School is in full swing this week! Throughout the building teachers are beginning their first English Language Arts unit for the school year. Our new reading program ARC Core, encourages teachers to use the ARC Core structure to orchestrate highly engaging, content-rich inquiry units in which students are the drivers of their own learning, preparing them for 21st century success. Students in each grade will be taught four, thematic units throughout the school year. The first unit focuses on developing a literacy lab in each classroom to ignite students' passion for reading. Here are the topics for Unit 1 for each grade level:

Kindergarten: So, you want to be a Scientist?

First Grade: Mapping My World

Second Grade: Words Change the World

Third Grade: Dinosaurs and Knights

Fourth Grade: Bravery and Your Brain

Fifth Grade: Aliens

Grades 3-5 held their first Leader in Me community meeting this week. The meeting is a great opportunity to meet as a school community to talk about our goals for the year.

Our students have been hard at work building connections and getting to know one another.
