Creating an Environment of Success
Our mission is to create an environment so that all are successful. That environment requires rules and policies, health and safety, positive relationships and connections, curriculum and instruction, and more. It takes all of us, staff, students, and parents, to make it happen - to achieve success. At this time, I'm reaching out to parents specifically for ways that you can help.
Parent Support
- Enforce the dress code at home - don't allow clothing that doesn’t cover armpit to thigh, that advertises beer, Playboy, or other inappropriate products, or that uses inappropriate language. Please also help by making sure your child has a clear backpack. All other backpacks and coats need to be stored in lockers. When the dress code is enforced at home, teachers can focus on all of the other aspects of environment, especially instruction.
- Encourage students to contact a trusted adult in the event of struggles or conflicts. Do not encourage fighting. Please know that school fights result in 10 day suspensions, a $100 civil fine ($500 for second offense), and the possibility of additional consequences.
- Don't allow your student to hang out at the school after school hours. We love to see students active and engaged in sports, clubs, and other school sponsored activities. This is a busy place. But students not involved in those things are expected to go home. This includes situations where school activities don't start until later in the evening. Students should leave and return.
- Contact school staff with concerns. If there is a question or concern about something happening in the classroom, reach out to the teacher, through phone or email. Always start with the teacher. And give them the benefit of the doubt. Remember that we work in partnership with you and have your child's best interest in mind.
- Prepare your child for the path, not the path for your child. Obstacles and challenges are inevitable. Overcoming them is a skill that we must help students to develop. If students don't learn those skills now, they will not be prepared for the challenges in their future.
