Head Cheetah Message
Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended the PTO-sponsored Pasta Dinner last night. It was such a pleasure to see so many families! The food was delicious, the raffle baskets were AMAZING, and a great time was had by all.
We are looking forward to welcoming you again this week for parent/teacher conferences. We can’t wait to discuss how much your learners have grown. Don’t forget to stop by the Scholastic Book Fair. It will be set up in the library.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheetah Council Candidates
This year, a large number of grade 3 students have applied for a spot on the Cheetah Council. As part of the process, each candidate wrote and read a speech explaining why they feel they deserve to serve on the council. The names of all candidates who meet the required criteria of council members will be placed into a lottery, and twenty names will be drawn. Good luck to our amazing grade 3 students.
PTO Sponsored Pasta Dinner
On Thursday evening, Memorial School’s cafeteria was transformed into a fine dining establishment, where delicious plates of pasta were served to our K-5 families! There was a large turnout, and our guests enjoyed being served by elementary staff members. A great time was had by all! Thank you to the EHEPTO for organizing this wonderful annual event.
Preschool Soap Drive
Please donate soap for the Preschool Soap drive. All items will be donated to the East Hampton Food Bank.

Physical Education News
Hi everybody,
We will be winding down our outdoor PE classes as we approach Thanksgiving and getting ready for a long stretch of units and activities in the gym. We had a great fall of outdoor PE with nice weather and fun activities, including the running club, soccer skills, lacrosse skills, frisbees, foxtails and our disc (or frisbee) golf unit.
Here's a recap on the latest “fall action” in our PE classes:
PreK, K, and Grade 1:
- throwing and catching different balls of various weights and sizes and other activities with different textures and shapes.
- stations, where we focused on fun and fitness based skills, like ring toss, corn hole toss, jumping short and long ropes, hula hooping, scarfs for beginning “juggling”, “snow cones”/“ice cream cones”, stacking cups, spinning plates, jumping sticks, basket and ping pong ball catching and Velcro ball catching (mostly all for tossing and catching and working on eye- hand coordination and skills).
- frisbee and foxtail throwing and catching and using the disc golf baskets.
- cooperative games.
- fitness, stretching exercises, running, and warmups before our main activity or skill for the class.
- rock climbing wall.
Grade 2 and Grade 3:
- fitness clubs with stations where we recorded our results and focused on fun and fitness based skills, like jumping short and long ropes, hula hooping, jumping sticks, spinning plates, basket and ping pong ball catching and Velcro ball catching (mostly all for tossing and catching and working on eye- hand coordination and skills).
- using the fitness lab equipment in the gym
- disc/frisbee golf with our disc baskets and on our disc golf course (10 “holes” on our front fields, where the running course is).
- running clubs on our outdoor running course and fitness and stretching exercises and warmups before our main activity or skill for the class.
- rock climbing wall and “climbing clubs”.
Thank you for all your support.

Numeracy News
Number Corner is an essential component of our math program, Bridges in Mathematics. It is a skill-building program that revolves around the classroom calendar, providing daily practice as well as continual encounters with broader mathematical concepts. Number Corner is 15-20 minutes of engaging instruction. The program features short daily workouts that introduce, reinforce, and extend skills and concepts related to critical areas of study at each grade level. These workouts include: calendar grid, calendar collector, computational fluency, number line, days in school (K/1), daily rectangle (2) and solving problems (3). Throughout the month during our Number Corner block, students have the opportunity to play games or activities, use manipulatives and are introduced to math vocabulary.
Each month of Number Corner, there is a new pattern introduced in the calendar. We have included an image of your child’s Number Corner calendar for the current month. Have a discussion with your child about the patterns that are incorporated during this month, along with the other components of Number Corner.
On The Math Learning Center website, you can explore as a parent to find out what key skills and concepts are practiced during Number Corner throughout the year through the concept outline. When checking out the website, be sure to click on the appropriate grade level on the left hand side of the screen.

Notes From The Nurse
Medications
Every medication that is brought into school requires a “Medication Authorization” form to be signed by the student’s doctor and parent/guardian and the medication in original packaging with prescription label is to be brought in by a parent/guardian, not in the child’s backpack. No child may carry their own medications at the Elementary level. Please use a large ziplock bag for the medication plus the medication order, and label the bag with your child’s name before dropping off. Any controlled medications will need to be counted and signed off with the RN and parent so please allow for a few extra minutes at drop off.
Please note: COUGH DROPS count as medications and are not allowed in school. All over-the-counter medications also need a medication order from your provider.
Food
We have several students with severe food allergies, therefore we highly recommend non food items to share for birthday celebrations. We ask for at least 48 hours advance notice. A great resource for allergy free snacks is the Safe Snack guide at https://snacksafely.com/safe-snack-guide/. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our school safe.
Health Concerns
If your child has a new health concern which you would like to speak to the nurse about e-mail kwilliams@easthamptonct.org and mlemire@easthamptonct.org at any time.
Please let us know if your child is diagnosed with any illness or injury (such as strep, flu, pink eye, fracture/broken bone, lice, etc.) as the nurse office tracks illnesses and sends notification letters home if there are 2 or more cases in a specific classroom.
If you have any specific concerns that arise during the school year (such as stitches, concussions, broken bones/fractures, etc) it is best that you send in a doctor’s note with dates, guidelines and restrictions, so we can all be on the same page and keep your child safe.
Respectfully,
Katie Williams, RN
and Ms. Michelle Lemire

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
