Trojan Territory
Week of September 16
Good evening Trojan Student and Families,
It is hard to believe but we just passed the midpoint of our first quarter. Please continue to encourage your student to attend each and every class on time. We have noticed a drop in attendance and would like to partner with parents and guardians to make sure all students are attending classes. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, please reach out to your students designated Dean of Students. During the week of Sept 30th-Oct 5th we will be hosting Homecoming activities. Please check your email in the upcoming weeks for more information. Here are the daily activities and attendance requirements for participation in athletic and social events, attendance and tardies do count!! Homecoming Communication. Also during the week of Sept 30th-Oct 5th we will be hosting our parent/teacher conferences on Oct 3rd from 4:30-6:30. This is an in person opportunity to meet with your students' teachers.
Community Event
Students, Parents and Guardians,
On Sept 17th, from 6:00-8:30, Thornton High School will be hosting a Community Event to kickoff the Adams 12 Blueprint Funding Proposal. We would love to hear your voice on possible upcoming, expansion of Career and Technical opportunities here at THS. Each presentation will last about 30 minutes. They are scheduled at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30. After the presentation in the auditorium, join us in the gym to hear more about new CTE student opportunities and vote to see which path would best support your student. We would love to see you here!!
Parking and Student Drop-Off
Parents and Guardians,
This is a friendly reminder not to stop on Southbound Washington St to drop off your student. Not only is this dangerous but it is also illegal. We will have increased Thornton Police patrol on Washington St to address this ongoing issue. In addition, the parking lot off of Washington is for buses and staff only. The student drop off is located on the South end of the THS campus off of Eppinger St and Pearl St. We will be blocking off the entrance on Washington St in the next few days. Please use the drop off moving forward, thank you.
Please see the following message below regarding Adams 12's Blueprint Funding Proposal!!
Blueprint Funding Proposals:
Through the Blueprint funding measures that are on this November’s ballot, every school, including Thornton High School, in the district would receive facility repairs or updates, and investments in staffing and programming. Some items our school would receive include:
Thornton High School will receive a new building with the approval of the Bond initiative!!

Chromebooks
If you went to an Adams 12 school last year, you should have your district-issued chromebook and charger. Those were NOT collected at the end of the school year. If you are a new student, stop by the library and we will check out a device and charger for you.
All students should now have a Chromebook.
If your Chromebook is not working or damaged please bring it (and the charger) to school and visit the library. Ms. Smith and Ms. Ewell in the library will help you out. If your Chromebook is lost or stolen, stop by the library and we'll talk about next steps and check out another device for you.
All students are charged a Chromebook Insurance fee of $20, $10 for reduced lunches and $0 for free lunches. Damaged Chromebooks have a $5.00 fine for the first damage, $50.00 fine for the second damage and for each additional damage the charge is $75.00. To replace a lost Chromebook the cost is $150. If your Chromebook is stolen, you MUST fill out a police report and submit that to the District to not be charged. Chromebook chargers are $35 to replace through the District. If you need a new charger and want to pay less, you can use THIS LINK. You do not have to use this link or buy through Amazon. The charger must be a 45-watt USB-C Type charger.

Academic Support takes place on Wednesdays from 7:40 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Academic Support will begin on Wednesday, August 16th.
Lunch
Freshman will have 4th and 6th hour lunch. Upperclassmen will have 5th hour lunch. After a recent Colorado law was enacted, ALL students can receive free lunch. Still, it is IMPORTANT to submit an application for free or reduced benefits.
Help with School Fees: Apply for Free and Reduced Benefits
Free and reduced benefits help families and THS! Families are encouraged to apply for free and reduced benefits for this school year. By applying for free and reduced benefits, families receive assistance and it helps our school too. Here are a few ways the benefits can help:
- THS can receive additional funding to enhance the educational experience for all students. ($1,280 per approved student)
- School fees can be waived or reduced. These include athletic fees, course fees and activity and field trip fees tied to curriculum.
- Students can receive assistance with post-graduation planning, scholarships, state and national testing (including SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate), and post-secondary enrollment.
- Families can qualify for additional resources, such as medical, food and cash assistance.
- Families can receive support with community services, such as internet, gym memberships, passes to museums and cultural events.
