Milo School News
December 2022
Principal's Point
It has been a busy few months here at the school and as we look towards our Christmas break we have a few more busy weeks ahead! I only have a few points to share with you this time.
- Most of our students have done a great job so far, but as we continue into the cold and windy months, please remember to send students dressed for the weather. As often as we can, we will be headed outside for recess for fresh air and space to run around so continue to send boots, snow pants, gloves, and a toque every day.
- Thank you to everyone who has supported our junior high fundraising efforts towards our Marine Biology trip. Both the cash calendar and the concession at the Christmas market were great successes and we are very appreciative!
- Evergreen Theatre is joining us this year from December 12th - 15th. They will work with all of the students to put together performances that connect to the science curricula. The students have some really great ideas from electrical safety to blind starfishes. You won't want to miss it! Join us on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00pm for our performance!
- Our Wellness Committee is planning some holiday-themed activities to take place from December 19th to 22nd and we will send out a schedule once we have finished it. December 22nd will be a busy day for us. Curling Alberta will be joining us in the morning for their Ready to Rock program that grades 4-9 will take part in. I will prepare a free hot lunch for students on the 22nd as well and will finish the day with some festive activities. More details on all of this will be released when the Wellness Committee finishes the schedule.
- Thanks to all the amazing volunteer readers that have been working with our students the past few months. If you are interested in spending some time supporting our young readers, Ms. Kirk is still looking for a few more volunteers!
Stay warm,

Edsby Update
Students in grades 7-9 have been shown how to access their Edsby accounts, allowing them to see when their marks are updated. We hope that this will give them the ability to take further accountability for their learning by checking their progress and rectifying when an assignment is incomplete, overdue, or not done to their best ability. Teachers will continue to support students in this regard, providing reminders and guidance when work can be improved or when an assignment needs to be submitted.

Around the School
Holly and Jolly are Back!
Holly and Jolly returned to Ms. Kirk's class and the students were VERY excited on December 1st to see what they had gotten up to. Some of them couldn't even wait for the door to be opened, they had to take a peek underneath. I wonder what these tricky little elves will do over the next few weeks!
Mustangs Volleyball
Our volleyball team wrapped up their season with a game against the staff/parents which was a lot of fun! Students not playing cheered from the stage, some even made signs of support for the adults or the junior high team!

Ms. Schneider's Kitchen
My family likes lots of cheese and loves pickles, so I added extra of both. Enjoy :)
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 c. sour cream
- 1/2 c. vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1 tbsp. pickle juice (use a good pickle juice, you can taste the difference)
- 1/2 c. chopped pickles (I added ¾ of a cup)
- 1/2 c. shredded cheddar (I also used extra cheese and sprinkled some on top)
- 2 tbsp. chopped fresh dill
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°. Line a 9" x 5" loaf pan with parchment paper. (See below for individual size)
In a large bowl, whisk together sour cream, vegetable oil, eggs, and sugar until smooth. Add flour, baking powder, salt, and pickle juice and stir until combined. Fold in chopped pickles, cheddar, and dill. Pour batter into loaf pan. (If adding cheese to the top of you loaf do so half way through baking time. For muffins add before baking)
Bake until the bread is golden and a toothpick inserted into the middle of the loaf comes out clean, 40 minutes. Cool completely before slicing. Serve with butter.
For a brownie pan use PAM (or preferred cooking spray) instead of parchment paper and cook for about half the time due to the smaller size.
For a Muffin tin either PAM (or preferred cooking spray) or baking cups will work and cook for about half the time due to the smaller size.
