Club Golf
Dear Parents,
I am thrilled to see so many kids interested in playing golf, and I’d like to take this opportunity to share some background information and details with those who have signed up.
My name is Heather Hoffman, and I’m a parent of a young golfer who will be attending River Valley in the future. I wanted to create a golf program for our community and to get this initiative off the ground, I collaborated with Lance Stock, River Valley’s Athletic Director. Another parent, Amanda Crofford, was instrumental in helping develop this program by connecting with the Parkview Principal and Jeromy Toler, Parkview’s Athletic Director. Her daughter, who attends Parkview, is also a golfer. Together, we were able to gain the support of both the middle school and high school girls’ golf coaches. Unlike New Albany, Floyd, and Silver Creek, Jeffersonville does not have a golf feeder program, so we took the step of forming a golf club to make this a reality. This is how we have reached this point.
How will the program work?
Please note that each participant is required to have their own set of clubs, as the school will not be providing them.
For beginners, I highly recommend enrolling in the First Tee of Louisville Winter Sessions. This program offers excellent instruction on the fundamentals of golf, including proper techniques for driving, chipping, and putting. I have attached an email with further details, and you can register for the First Tee program through their website: First Tee Registration. They are a wonderful group of individuals who love golf.
Additionally, I encourage parents to consider signing up for the PGA Junior League in the spring, which provides great opportunities for young players to gain more hands-on experience. Both the First Tee of Louisville and the Zach Johnson Foundation offer developmental tours designed to nurture and develop young golfers, making them a great fit for those looking to improve their skills. As the golfers mature in their skill, Indiana Golf and Kentucky both have tournaments for the kids to play in.
When does the Golf Club begin?
Our program will officially kick off around April 1st. We will hold an introductory meeting, and the specific time and location will be shared closer to the date. Practices will be scheduled for Tuesdays at 6 pm. We are fortunate to have Braxton Troutman, a former Jeff High golfer and current JCPS 4th-grade teacher, volunteering as the coach. Some kids may already know him from the PGA Junior League at Elk Run. Additionally, some parents and high school golfers will be assisting during practices, as their children will be participating.
Where will practices and matches take place?
We are grateful to Elk Run Golf Club for allowing the kids to practice and compete on their course, which also serves as Jeff High’s course. Parents will be responsible for transporting their children to and from the golf course for both practices and matches.
What is the dress code?
Thanks to the generosity of the Zach Johnson Foundation, polos will be provided for all club members. Players will need to supply their own shorts, pants, or skorts suitable for playing golf.
In February, we will send out additional details regarding the introductory meeting and other important information about the program. We are very excited to launch this new initiative, and we look forward to seeing your children out on the course! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your support. Please reach out if you have any questions or thoughts.
Warm regards,
Heather Hoffman

21st Century Scholars
The 21st Century Scholars program is a wonderful opportunity for eligible students to get four years of free college tuition. All 8th grade students that are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program are automatically enrolled in the 21st Century program as well. However, I know we have students that are eligible for free/reduced lunch that don’t complete the application process, so I want to make sure everyone is aware of this opportunity. Please go to the link below to see the income eligibility guidelines and the enrollment process. If you feel your student may be eligible, click on ‘Create an Account’ in the green box. Once you have created an account, apply for the program. If you need any help at all, please reach out and I will be happy to assist. Thank you.
