Kura Tuatahi Toko Panui
16th May 2024
Dear Parents and Friends of our School Kia Ora/Hello/Kamusta
Kia ora koutou,
Today is Support Staff Day and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible support staff members we have in our school; Annette, Margaret, Treena, Jodene, Fiona, Tracy and Jasmine. Your dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to the well-being and success of our students and school does not go unnoticed. From keeping our school clean and tidy, to managing the office to ensure everything runs smoothly, and providing intervention programmes and in class support. Each of you play a vital role in creating a positive and nurturing learning environment. Your kindness, patience, and willingness to go above and beyond make a significant difference in the lives of our tamariki every single day. Thank you for all that you do to make our school a place where everyone feels supported and valued. You truly are the backbone of our school, and we are immensely grateful for your contributions.
On Friday we will be having our school assembly at the earlier time of 10.40am as the tamariki recognise the contribution our support staff make.
The weather has certainly changed over the last week. We have noticed many tamariki are arriving at school with only one layer of clothing, shorts, no jackets and no shoes. Can whānau please ensure tamariki come to school prepared for the cooler weather.
Just a reminder that we have a Ministry of Education allocated Teacher Only Day on Friday 31st May. The school will be closed on this day.

Biennial Community Survey
During Term 3 we conducted our biennial community survey. We will continue to share sections of the survey each fortnight in the newsletter. The full survey is available to read on our school's website.
12. Transition to school - If your child has started school for the first time in the last 12 months how would you rate our transition to school procedures?
100% of parents commented that our transition to school procedures are excellent/good.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
To continue with the Mutukaroa programme for children 5 – 7 years old.
To work with the Te Kahui Ako o Taranaki Mohoao focussed on transition from Early Childhood Centres to Primary School.
To continue to strengthen how our schools Learning Support Co-ordinator can play a contributing role in the transition from Early Childhood to Toko School.
HELPING YOUR CHILDREN AT HOME
At the end of Year 6
We expect that most children will know:
- Children will know subtraction facts to 20

KUPU - WORDS
Each fortnight we will be shairng some kupu with you all that we are using in our classrooms. You may want to learn along as well. We will provide the word, how to pronounce it and how to say it in a sentence.
WHANAU HUI
We would like to invite all the parents and caregivers of our tamariki (children) to once again join us for a kapahaka session.
On Tuesday 28th May we will run a normal kapahaka session with Wharekuka from 12-12.30 which you are all welcome to come and watch. From 12.30-1pm we will have a cup of tea and a biscuit and a chit chat with Wharekuka. If time allows we would also like to share with you our Te Reo journey so far and to seek some feedback about our next steps.
If you are keen to join us could you please email me so we can make sure there are enough biscuits lol. megan.oliver@toko.school.nz
CANCER SOCIETY FUNDRAISER
Last term we held a relay for life at Toko school. We set a goal to walk every lunchtime for the whole of week 11. We aimed for 300km as a group but surpassed it by running/walking 514.8km in 4 days. As it rained on day 5 we ended up spending lunchtime doing Just Dance in the hall. Thank you to everyone who donated to this fundraiser and to students, parents and staff who joined us to run/walk laps. Together we raised $2726 through food sales, gold coin donation and sponsorship for the Taranaki cancer society. Tyler and Josh (Head leaders)
