LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
We had a fantastic first week back from spring break, starting with the solar eclipse!
In Pre-K this week we kicked off our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Unit. Students continued to focus on letter recognition, and learned about Spring and weather types. They delved into topics related to Spring growth, practiced counting forwards and backwards from ten, and enjoyed Spring-themed crafts and math games. The books read this week included "Splish Splash Spring", "Paper Bag Princess", "Mouse’s First Spring", and "Spring is Here", and the songs used included "Months of the Year" and "How’s the Weather?". To extend learning over the weekend try to carve out some time to engage your little one in story discussions, drawing story parts, and explaining unfamiliar words during storytime at home.
In Kindergarten this week, students continued to work on word segmentation and consonant digraphs. These skills are helping them to become more proficient readers and spellers. During Readers’ Workshop, they compared the features of fiction and non-fiction, and engaged in thoughtful discussions about the read aloud. They unleashed their creativity in Writing Workshop, crafting true stories, and in Math, they embarked on hands-on activities, from adding dots on dominoes to comparing sets and exploring shapes. Alongside, they learned about their surroundings in Social Studies and delved into captivating topics like animal habitats and solar eclipses in Science.
