Pirates Post:
Week of: Sept. 27th
Message from Principal Drew...
Students,
This quote (above) from William Shakespeare reminds me of the importance of being on time all the time. Being on time is important for so many reasons. A few of those reasons are:
It shows respect for others as well as yourself
It shows that you are reliable and can be trusted
It shows that you are organized and ready to work
It avoids or minimizes stress
It provides you with the greatest opportunity to be successful
These reasons are true for each of us whether they apply to school, work, appointments, or other social engagements. Being on time indicates to others that you want to be successful and that what they have to offer matters to you. Being on time also indicates that you are independent and personally responsible for your personal achievements.
This past week we had over 100 tardies in first period. That is an average of over 20 tardies each day. The total loss of instructional time due to these tardies was over 200 minutes. This means that students at PCHS missed over three hours of instruction this week in first period simply because they did not get to school on time. We can and must do better if we are to reach our full potential.
I challenge each of you to be on time every day. Let’s reduce our tardiness and improve our productivity and positive results in all classes.

Marching Band> The Perquimans County Marching Pirates are traveling to Greenville, NC this weekend to play half-time with East Carolina University! The Marching Pirates will be there all day to get the full game day experience and take a tour of the University's facilities. The school will be showing us the school of music, performance venues, and give students a general rundown of all ECU has to offer. We are performing an 80's show under the lights of Dowdy-Ficklen stadium. With a capacity of over 50,000, ECU has the 2nd largest college stadium in NC. This is the first time the Perquimans band has performed at a college game in many years and we are excited to get rowdy in Dowdy this Saturday!
Social Studies> Anyone interested in up to $30,000 in scholarship monies? Are you good at writing? Are you good at public speaking? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please see Mrs. Jackson in Room #149 to pick up an official entry form for the 2021-22 VFW Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest. The theme this year is “America: Where do we go from here?”
If you are interested, Mrs. Jackson would be happy to help you get started or get you more information. Last year’s state winner and national 4th place winner was one of Mrs. Jackson’s former students...will you be the next winner??

Expectations of a Pirate...
- If your grades are where you want them to be...give yourself a pat on the back and keep working hard.
- If your grades are low and you want to do better...meet with your teachers and ask for help, what do you need to do to improve your grades. Most low grades are a result of poor attendance, lack of effort (zeros on assignments), and/or poor behavior in class (disruptions/distractions). You have the ability to turn things around!
As we head into the final week of September, let's show our Pirate Pride by...
- be on time (first bell rings at 7:55 am)
- be prepared (complete all assignments, have Chromebook fully charged, study)
- be respectful (no distractions, disruptions, or disrespect)
- be responsible (mask up above the nose, no hats/hoodies, no cell phones, follow dress code)
- be your best!
