As recovery continues, Wilkes County Schools want to give back to our neighbors in Ashe County who were impacted by Hurricane Helene. Wilkes County Schools are collecting items for care packages that will be delivered in December. The goal is to create a small care package for every student and staff member in Ashe County Schools. Wilkesboro Elementary School has been asked to create 120 care packages for children and 21 packages for staff.

We are collecting items to bring HOPE.

• H - Huggable items (small plushies, toys
• O - Outdoor gear (gloves, hats, scarves, socks)
• P - Personalized notes of care and encouragement
• E - Expressive materials like coloring books, journals, crayons, and colored pencils

We will collect donations through December 2. Donations can be brought directly to our school office at 1248 School Street in WIlkesboro from 8:00- 4:00 Monday through Fridays.

Thanks to generous donations from our community, our students were able to build and donate 225 individual bags to students across western NC. Each care pack was packaged in a water-resistant bag and was filled with a handmade note of encouragement, activities for learning and creativity, a pair of gloves and socks, and other materials for play and learning at home.

Our students in Ms. Wyles' class inventoried and organized materials, and students from all grade levels worked on an assembly line to build individual take home care bags. Thank you to our school couselor Rachel Minick for her help with this project.

School nurse Lindsey Roberts (robertslwilkes.k12.nc.us), school social worker Brandy Walsh (walshb@wilkes.k12.nc.us AND link to SSW Page), and school counselor Rachel Minick (minickr@wilkes.k12.nc.us) can help your family access information and resources for your child's health and overall well being. Do you need to make a transportation change or have questions about your child's records? Our office manager Rebekah Lisk is here to help. Please CALL or DOJO by 2:00 with any transportation changes. Also, to maintain safety as we learn new families, please make sure to show the office staff your WES car tag or photo ID when you come to the office to pick up your child.
