Principal's Message
It was wonderful seeing so many families last night at Back to School Night. Today our students met Ms. Minnich, Assistant Principal, as she supervised our lunches. Ms. Minnich supports two other schools in our district and will be at Murwood twice weekly.
I hope to see you at our first PTA General Meeting, Tuesday, August 27th at 6pm. I am looking forward to sharing information with you about our updated board policy around mobile devices. I have been reading the book, The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt and it is really helping me reflect on mobile device use for children, both as a mom and an educator. I am looking forward to share my insights and hear from you on this topic.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to volunteer at Murwood. All volunteers must complete the WCSD volunteer training. This is a virtual training that can be completed in ~15 minutes. Please click this link to begin your volunteer training.
School Site Council
School Site Council (SSC) is a committee of teachers, parents, administrators, and interested community members who work together to develop and monitor the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), including goals that align with our school district's strategic plan. Meetings are from 3:00-4:00pm on zoom. We would love you to join. If you are interested in joining SSC, please submit this form.
Thank you for your collaboration.

Notes From The Office
Dear New & Returning Parents-
Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! Each week I will provide a variety of information from the office. Please take a moment to read through my article each week so you can stay in the “know”!
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
A reminder to all that Murwood is a closed campus during school hours. Visitors and volunteers must sign in at the office and obtain a visitor badge. If you are going to drop off lunches or other items for your child, please bring the items to the office and we will be happy to deliver them. Please do not take items directly to the classroom. Also, we ask that parents not linger in the hallways after the morning bell. If you are staying to volunteer please sign-in.
If your child is going to be absent, please call the school to report the absence on our main number: 925-943-2462 or email fharvery@walnutcreeksd.org. There is a voicemail for leaving messages after hours. Please leave the following information: student name, your name and relationship to student, teacher name, date(s) of absence and reason for absence. Please note that illnesses of 3 consecutive days or more require a note from the doctor. Unverified absences will be recorded as unexcused.
Drop-off reminder: Students may be dropped off 15 minutes prior to the morning bell (7:55 on Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri and 8:40 on Wed) where we have morning recess and supervision. Students having breakfast may be dropped off at 7:45 (8:30 on Wed).
Mrs. Kaye, Office Manager
Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures 🚸
Here are some very important reminders about safety during drop off and pick up. Please take the first few days of school to teach your child(ren) where you will drop them off in the morning and where you expect them to go/wait in the afternoon.
Safety first! Please remember to use the sidewalk and crosswalk when walking to and from campus.
When using the drop off/pick up car lane:
Please stay in your car.
Please do not park or leave your car unattended in the drop off lane. This will help alleviate the traffic back up on Vanderslice.
Please pull all the way forward. (A staff member will send your child to your car at pick up.) This will help alleviate the traffic back up on Vanderslice.
Early TK-1st grade may use the middle lane for drop off to give our youngest students more time to become familiar with exiting the car. Staff members will be present to help students onto campus.
Please be mindful of pedestrians on Vanderslice Ave. as well as those in our parking lot.
Please do not take video or pictures while driving through the drop off/pick up. We want all students, staff and family members to make it safely into and off of campus.
The back gate will be open at drop off time for 1st-5th grade and early TK/K students. Late start TK/K can use the trail to walk to the front of the school for drop off.
TK/K families exiting near Murwood drive should use the trail to walk towards the back. Please do not walk through campus.
Please reserve staff parking for staff members as they are entering and exiting campus throughout the school day.
Please do not double park at any time.
Please be patient as everyone becomes accustomed to the routines, the drop off/pick up will move quickly when we all work together.

A Great Education Starts With A Strong Foundation
Our school is fortunate to have two non-profit, parent-volunteer led organizations to support our students: PTA/PTO and WCEF TK-12. Both have distinct missions and are critical to creating great schools and supportive communities. To learn more, check out this video from Back to School Night.
For 40 years, WCEF has partnered with both the WCSD and Las Lomas to help bridge the gap between state funding and the actual needs of our students. This year, our goal is to raise $1.6 million for the Walnut Creek School District and Las Lomas High School. These funds will support enriching programs like Art, Science, and Music; provide academic and social-emotional resources; maintain smaller class sizes; and keep libraries open. Every dollar matters. Every student benefits.
