Portrait of a Wildcat
SGA student, Maylee Haggard, in Mrs. Palacios' class displayed the Portrait of a Wildcat word of the month, "Adaptability" through a rendition of the national anthem. Portrait of a Wildcat "Adaptability" embodies demonstrating flexibility when acclimating to various roles and situations and responding constructively to feedback, praise, and setbacks.
Administrative Professionals Day
This week, we proudly recognized our incredible secretary, Mona Gutierrez, in honor of Administrative Professionals Day! Mona was gifted a special appreciation basket and posed for a photo with Sixth Grade Academy Principal Steve Barron in front of a heartfelt tribute poster. We are so grateful for everything Mona does to keep SGA running smoothly. Her dedication, organization, and warm spirit make a difference every single day. Thank you, Mona, we appreciate you more than words can say!
Honor Society Fundraiser
Congratulations to Manuel Cardenas Villabos, the winner of the Yeti cooler! His sister is pictured receiving the cooler on his behalf. A special thank you to everyone who supported the Honor Society Fundraiser. The funds raised will provide our Honor Society Members with a field trip to the Main Event in Lubbock, TX, on May 8, 2025.
National Cafeteria Workers Day
Sixth Grade Academy students surprise Gann Cafeteria workers with donuts on National Cafeteria Workers Day, also known as School Lunch Hero Day, is celebrated on the first Friday in May. This day is a chance to recognize and thank the hardworking individuals who prepare and serve meals to students in schools.
SGA Teacher Recognition
Congratulations to Sixth Grade Academy teacher Jaycie Homer for being the only educator from New Mexico selected for the National Teach Plus Leading Edge Educator Fellowship! The Leading Edge Fellowship is a highly selective program for educators from around the nation to become skilled communicators and writers about policies and innovations that are reshaping education. The program combines hands-on experience with AI and emerging educational technologies, deep dives into local and national policy, and intensive communications training to help innovative educators contribute meaningfully to public dialogue about the future of teaching and learning.
SGA Band Concert
The Sixth Grade Academy band will perform at the Lovington High School gym. Call time is 5:50 p.m. for students. Please dress in all black attire for the concert.

Standardized Testing
These are the dates for testing at SGA:
May 5, 6 for Math;
May 12, 13 for Reading;
Please make every effort to have your child at school during testing and make sure their Chromebooks are sent with them to school fully charged each day.
Honor Society Field Trip
Honor Society students will be traveling to the Main Event in Lubbock, TX on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Early Release
Students will be released early from school on Wednesday, May 14 at 11:45 a.m. The LHS Senior Walk will also take place at SGA on this day.
Semester Exams
Semester Exams at Sixth Grade Academy will be administered on Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21. Please ensure your child is in attendance at school on these days for exams.
Chromebook Pickup
Students will turn in their school issued Chromebooks and chargers on Thursday, May 22. If students have damaged or lost Chromebooks or chargers upon return, they will be responsible for charges associated with the costs of replacement or repair.

Summer Break
Students will be released from school on Friday, May 23 at 1:45 p.m. for Summer break. Hope you all have a safe, blessed and restful holiday. Thank you for sharing your students with us here at SGA this year!
Yearbook Sales
Starting now through May pre-sales for school yearbooks will be taking place at SGA. Yearbooks can be purchased in Ms. Homer's classroom, room 111, for $20. All yearbook orders will be shipped and arrive at the end of this month to be distributed to students. If you would like to purchase one for your student please send payment with them to school.
