PRINCIPALS NOTE
HMS Families,
Thank you! Our teachers felt very loved this week during teacher appreciation week. We are so grateful for our PTO and all the parents that volunteered their time or donated to support our staff!!!
This week marked the end of track season. We thoroughly enjoyed watching so many of our students participate in track and field. Congratulations to our 8th grade track teams. Our boys finished 2nd as a team at the district meet and our girls were the district champions. Several of our girls set both school and district records at the meet. Way to go T-Birds!
I cannot believe there are only two weeks left in the school year. We are going to enjoy what time we have left with students this school year.
The 4th quarter is moving along and students are working hard to get to the finish line of the 2023-24 school year. Please encourage your student(s) to stay on top of their academics. Checking canvas with your student(s) is a great way to do this.

Friday, May 24 is the last day of school with a 10:50 AM dismissal. Yearbooks will not be distributed prior to this date for any reason. If your family is traveling and will miss the final day of school, your student’s Yearbook can be picked up at a later date. 8TH GRADE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT NEEDS
Every year, the eighth grade does a community service project for local animal shelter(s) in hopes of helping out around the community. This year, we decided to make homemade dog toys out of household items for the dogs. If you have any spare t-shirts, knee-high socks, or tennis balls around the house, please consider donating for this cause. Thank you!
HMS SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
We’ve got a great opportunity for some summer reading for students going into 6th-8th grade. Grab a book and read at least 500 minutes for
Pick up your summer reading calendar in the front office or print one HERE.
LOST AND FOUND
Hello Parents,
The lost and found is over flowing. Please have your students look for their items. After May 17th, the items will be donated.
Thank You!
HONOR CODE
CARLINE REMINDERS
Please remember to follow our carline rules at all times to ensure efficiency for all.
Use the east entrance to the front circle. The west entrance is for buses only.
Pull forward all the way before allowing your student to exit the car.
This is extremely important. Do not stop until you have pulled all the way up as far as you can in front of the school.
Please have your student exit the car quickly. One slow car can back up the entire carline.
Pull to the left after your student exits your car. (this is extremely important to ensure traffic continues to flow)
Turn right only when exiting the parking lot. Waiting to turn left completely halts our carline.
Also, please DO NOT park along 141st street during pickup or dropoff. This is a no parking zone as it is a safety issue for our students trying to use the crosswalk. Please enter the HMS parking lot to pick up your student after school.
SAFE SCHOOL REPORTING
Blue Valley Schools is committed to promoting and fostering a safe environment in and around all of our schools. Through the convergence of physical and intellectual security measures, we are continuously working to prevent, mitigate, respond to and recover from a wide range of emergencies. Please check out available ways to report safety concerns.
STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
The Blue Valley Board of Education approved updates to Board Policy 3500 - Behavior and Discipline at the August 14, 2023 Board of Education meeting. As part of this approval, there is a Student Code of Conduct document. We ask all families and students within our school community to review the contents, policies and procedures within this Student Code of Conduct.
Administrative actions taken as a result of a violation of the code of conduct are determined following proper investigation, review, and/or consideration of the age/grade of the student, context, and situation in which the behavior in question occurred. The scope of authority of the Blue Valley Student Code of Conduct applies at all times when students are on school buses or other vehicles used by the district to transport students, school district property, or engaged in official school activities. Additionally, this code of conduct applies to any student whose conduct at any time or place has a direct and immediate effect causing substantial disruption impacting the order of school operations and/or the sense of student and staff safety that exists in the school or school-related environment.
Students at HMS will be made aware of behavioral expectations and the Code of Conduct through grade level talks next week. Every student at HMS also has our handbook in the front of their student planner.
