COMMUNITY UPDATE
Greetings CUBS-
It was wonderful to see so many families at our Mid-Year Conferences. Thank you to all those families who joined us in-person and/or by TEAMS. Our Collins Cubs were busy this week celebrating their 100th Days of school. We also began a fundraiser for St. Jude with our PENNY WARS! This will take place now through next week, on February 14, 2024.
Continuing next week, students receiving services will begin their testing for WIDA. The letter has already been sent to those families. This testing will take place from February 5-March 22nd throughout the course of the next several weeks.
Next week, we are celebrating KINDNESS week together with spirit days. Please see below! As a reminder, no school for MID-WINTER BREAK February 19-February 23, 2024. We also do not have any school on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 27th, due to the Primary Election. Students will be participating in a school-wide election to vote on names for our CUB TROPHIES on Monday, February 26th.
Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead!
Warm regards,
Principal Ciacchella

On Tuesday, May 7th and Wednesday, May 8th, Utica Community Schools Foundation and Connect Macomb in cooperation with UCS, will be hosting the 6th grade Annual Career Focus Luncheon. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of our 6th grade students to attend. Collins will be attending on Wednesday, May 8th from 11-1pm. 🚗PARKING LOT SAFETY-PLEASE READ🛑
Thank you for using your manners with other families at this time and for following the traffic safety laws, at all time. We appreciate your kindness displayed to our Cubs for their safety!
- If you plan to park your car and walk your child to the building, we ask that you please only walk across the areas with white paint and near the front door entrance with our crossing guard.
HANDICAP PARKING:
- This is for those citizens with a handicap permit only. Thank you for your help with this matter.
PARENT DROP OFFLINE:
- This is intended for a quick student exit of vehicles and ask that you pull completely forward to continue our traffic flow.
- Students are allowed to exit from the right side of the vehicle.
- Please pull as far up towards the end of the Gymnasium door as possible to keep the line moving.
- If you need to exit the vehicle, we ask that you use a parking space and walk them up to the building.
DRIVE-BY PASSING LANE:
- The lane closest to the parking lot is intended to pass if necessary. We ask that you please monitor your speed as we have many little CUBS walking next to their families. Thank you for your patience.
- No parking is allowed at any time. Thank you.
- Loop needs to be free of PARKED cars due to sharp turn for our bus. Thank you!
🐾CARING COLLINS CUBS!💗
We are pleased to celebrate our Collins CARING CUBS award!
Each week, our Cubs are celebrated for showing their P.A.W.S. Classrooms and staff are selected and/or nominated to be celebrated by all our Cubs community for being CARING CUBS!
This week, we are pleased to celebrate two classrooms for showing their P.A.W.S! They will have the opportunity to house our two Collins Cubs in their classrooms for the week! Congratulations to the following:

STUDENT BEHAVIOR POLICY
P.A.W.S.
SUPER CUBS SHOW THEIR P.A.W.S!
P: Positive Choices
A: Act Responsibly
W: Will be Respectful
S: Shows Integrity
All Collins Cubs are expected to follow protocols and procedures while showing their PAWS! That includes inside the classrooms, during the hallways, on the playgrounds, and for arrivial/dismissal as well. Teachers will be on the lookout for ways to celebrate students showing their PAWS and have a chance to earn incentives.
UTICA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PARENT HANDBOOK FOR BEHAVIORS
Please review all Utica Community Schools behavior policies in the Parent Handbook attached to the link below. It is expected that all UCS policies and procedures will be adhered to at any/all school functions and on school properties. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
SCHOOL SAFETY UPDATE
Safety remains a priority for our school. Collins Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.)
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
