The Chat
Chatfield Newsletter: May 20 - June 3, 2024
Chatfield Olympic Day: June 7, 2024
Olympics and Middle School Tribal Wars are just around the corner and we need your help! Please sign up to run an event at the Olympics. Bring a friend and make a day of it, we will provide lunch!
We also need each family to prepare a special dish for the Olympic lunch. See your child's grade level newsletter for details.
There are many ways to help and be involved with the Olympics! When everyone is involved it is more fun and we accomplish more! Please plan to be involved!
Summer Reading Plans
This summer there are many ways to help your child avoid the summer slide and keep their reading skills on par for the coming school year!
Chatfield is participating in a new program called Kids Read Now! Students entering grades 1 through 5 will recieve a free book in the mail each week. Each book is free. We encourage families to download the KidsReadNow app and log the student's books at www.kidsreadnow.org. See attached flier for details.
Additionally, each student entering k-8 will have a summer reading book to read over the course of the summer. Please encourage your child to enjoy this book and you may want to read it together.
Dress Code Reminder
This is a friendly reminder to consider the dress code when students are getting ready for school each day. Students should NOT wear flip flops, sandals, or crocs as we have found that these do not protect students when they run or make a fast stop. Students are also more likely to get splinters. We recommend students wear socks and rubber soled shoes (like gym shoes). The dress code can be found in the student-parent handbook.
Planning for the Next School Year!
Teacher Requests
Because the Chatfield staff puts a great deal of thought, effort, and time into creating well-balanced homerooms that will be conducive to each child's growth, we DO NOT accept requests for teachers or special placements for students within certain classes. Many factors including student personalities, behaviors, personal attributes, work habits, and test scores are considered when creating class lists. Additionally, teacher assignments change from time to time. However, Chatfield staff DOES appreciate parent input on what they feel may be most beneficial for their child and why. It is important for parents to understand that their suggestions, while appreciated, may not be accommodated and are not guaranteed. Despite any conversations a parent may have previously had with teachers regarding next year's placements, any suggestions for your child's homeroom placement may only be made via email to the current homeroom teacher and must include (via CC) Bill Kraly at bkraly@chatfieldschool.org prior to June 1, 2024.
Not Returning Next School Year?
We certainly hope that all of our current kindergarten through seventh grade students plan to spend next year with us here at Chatfield. We do know that from time to time students do move. If you anticipate that your current kindergarten through seventh grade child will not be returning to Chatfield please let us know as soon as possible to allow us to plan for and accommodate changes that may be required and to support your child's positive transition to a new school.
