South MS Friday Blast

We have less than 3 weeks until the end of the 2023/24 school year! We had a very busy week as baseball, lacrosse, softball, and track had their last games/meets of the spring season, 6th & 7th grades recognized academic achievements with ice cream celebrations, Algebra I students completed the Keystone exams, the band and orchestra performed a fabulous spring concert last evening, and 8th grade hosted a revolutionary war museum in the gym today. Tonight, 8th grade will have their last dance at South MS. As you can see by the calendar below, next week is going to be a whirlwind as well so we invite everyone to enjoy these South MS events as we rocket toward the end of the school year!

May 28 - Music Dept trip to Dorney Park

Attention 8th grade girls interested in Pennridge High School volleyball: The PHS women's volleyball program led by varsity head coach Mike Fleischacker ("Coach Fly" to the players), is hosting spring open gyms for middle school students interested in the game and is open to all 8th grade girls from beginner to experienced. The next open gym is TOMORROW, May 18th, from 9:00AM - 11:00AM in the PHS white gym. Additional open gym dates are: May 25th and June 1st.

Next Thursday, May 23rd, the 6th grade class will travel to the Upper Bucks County Tech School for a tour. At the request of the tech school teachers, and for the safety of our students, all students must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes for their tour that day. If students are not dressed appropriately, it could limit their experience in the shop areas.

Hi South Families! The Color Run is almost here! It is only 2 weeks away. Due to a scheduling conflict, the Color Run is now on Thursday, May 30th and will happen rain or shine. In order to help make the Color Run a success, we are still in need of some donations. The donations will be used as raffle prizes. All donations go toward your child's fundraising goal. There are prizes for the student and homerooms that fundraise the most.

Band students who will be in 7th & 8th grade for the 2024/25 school year are invited to attend Summer Band Camp at Central MS with Mrs. Apple. Click here for all the details and to sign up for this fun experience.

As the weather begins to get warmer, we ask that parents/guardians help their child(ren) use good judgment when making their daily school outfit selections. Some reminders:

• Shorts, skirts, and dresses should be no shorter than mid-thigh in length.
• The following are not permitted: cut-offs, boxers, or spandex shorts of any style, spaghetti straps, halter tops, tank tops, muscle shirts, or any tops that expose the midriff.

Having children of my own, I completely understand how today's trends can make this difficult at times. However, we ask for your assistance and cooperation in this matter. Thanks!

1. Please remind students to charge their laptops every night.
2. Please remind students of the importance of listening carefully to AM and PM announcements for up-to-the-minute information that might affect their school day schedule.
3. If your child is going to be absent from school please call the school office at 215-257-0467 to inform us of the absence, or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for absence (illness, family trip, etc.).
4. If your child is being dismissed early for any reason (dentist appt, doctor appt, family trip, etc.) please call the school office at 215-257-0467 or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for early dismissal.
5. If your child is going to be arriving late to school, please call the school office at 215-257-0467 or e-mail us at SMSattendance@pennridge.org with your child's name, grade, and reason for tardiness (overslept, not feeling well, etc.) to inform us of the late arrival.
6. Notification of absence, early dismissal, or late arrival will help us notify your child's teachers why the student is not in class. Thank you!
7. If your family has an emergency situation where your child(ren) needs to ride a different bus for a day and you are unable to reach the school for a bus pass, you should email transport@pennridge.org to explain the situation and request the temporary change of bus.
