Parent Climate Survey
In order to accurately measure and improve our school’s climate, we will be administering a school climate survey to all members of the school community. The survey is designed to assess perceptions of school climate, including feelings about safety, relationships, learning, the environment, and communication within the school.
To complete the family survey, please go to this link: https://rezed.io/1PDH2D. Every parent who takes the survey will be entered into a weekly raffle to win a gift-card!!! After you've taken the survey, email Eleisha LeMay (ELeMay@crec.org) with your child's name, and you will be entered into the raffle!
The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Your feedback is important to helping International understand and improve the specific climate issues in our school. All responses are anonymous.
All surveys must be completed no later than March 14, 2025. Results from the survey will be used to inform planning of future school climate improvement initiatives.).

Black History Month Celebration Recap
This year's Black History Month Celebration was something special. Our scholar's and staff worked really hard to make this year's performance spectacular! Scholars from 6th and 12th grade contributed in various ways, from dance, music, drama performances and artwork, to even being apart of the tech crew! We are so proud of all of their hard work and dedication to such an amazing celebration! Thank you also to our amazing Dragon staff that assist with this event!
Black History Student Artwork
Did you see the Black History Artwork around the school?
Mrs. Groenstein and Ms. Livingston's art classes worked incredible hard to create this amazing gallery of art that is located in the student entrance.
You will see paper mache' masks, collaborative giant art celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Bisa Butler, (American Artist) who's artwork style is also seen in the pictures below; along with visual artist Jean Michel Basquiat.
Make sure to come and check it out, if you haven't already. The gallery will be available until the end of Parent Conferences.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAURETE PROGRAMME
IB Learner of the Month
Each month at International, we focus on one of the IB Learner Profile traits, and celebrate scholars and teachers who exemplify them. As partners in education, we love sharing ways that you can support the development of these traits at home.
FEBRUARY- PRINCIPLED
This month, the IB Learner Profile trait we are celebrated is principled. Principled individuals “act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and with respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere. [They] take responsibility for [both] their actions and their consequences.”
In today’s world, it is critical for people to know what they value and how their values can guide their life choices and decisions. To support your IB learners as they develop as principled individuals, here are some ways to encourage ethical, informed decision-making at home:
Ask your student about what they value and believe in, and how their choices and actions should reflect these;
Share times when you acted with integrity and honesty with your student, and why it mattered that you did; and
Support your student to take responsibility for their own actions:
Help them as they take on new responsibilities: talk through their new role and ask them to think about how that could impact their other responsibilities
When they make a mistake, process through how they can take responsibility for their actions, and support them as they do so.
March's IB Learner Trait is Risk-Taker
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
MYP and DP: A Review of Formative vs. Summative Assessments
As we are just past the midpoint of the school year, we thought it would be a good time to review what we mean by formative and summative assessment. It is also critical that students consistently complete formative assessment so that they can succeed on their summative assessments.
Two quick definitions:
Formative assessment is assessment for learning.
Used by students to practice new skills and get feedback on what still needs to be worked on. Used by teachers to provide feedback on student progress and what they need to focus on and improve.
Formative assessment might include practice or rehearsal of skills students will need to perform on summative assessments.
Summative assessment is assessment of learning.
It is used to evaluate student achievement. In other words, it is what you probably know assessment to be: a way to measure how much a student learned during a period of study.
Summative assessments might include tests or papers, but they could also include projects, presentations, or other creative ways for students to convey their learning.
The most important aim of assessment is to support and encourage student learning and growth. If a student does not complete formative assignments, their teachers cannot provide feedback to help them improve performance. In addition, students who don’t regularly submit formative work are less likely to succeed on summative tasks. They don’t know the material or skills, have not developed the self-discipline to complete assignments fully, and have not given themselves the chance to feel good about progress they could have made.
In short, completing formative assignments is one of the keys to preparing for college and career success. Being consistent in work completion – and having high expectations for their own performance – is a trait of successful people. To quote Dwayne Johnson, “Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.”

Attendance Matters ALL YEAR LONG!
- The school day is from 7:30-2:05.
- Scholars missing school for 3 cores or more will be considered absent for the day.
- Attendance matters for all classes so if a scholar can only attend 1 or 2 cores for an excused reason, we highly recommend they do.
Scholars absent more than 10% of the school year (18 days) are considered CHRONICALLY ABSENT by the State. The first 9 absences are excused with parent communication to the school. Ten and over will require specific documentation for reasons listed in the handbook (located on our website).
High School Scholars: Loss of credit for a class can occur after 12 absences (Half Year Courses) or 24 absences (Full Year Courses). Please contact your Counselor to discuss how credit can be recovered.
Please remind your child of the importance of waking up early and being in school daily. If you need support and resources please contact Ms. Gibson at sgibson@crec.org or their school counselor (listed below).
