What's Happening This Week:
Welcome back to another exciting week in Ms. Kuhn's First Grade Classroom! ❄️ As we embrace the winter season, our little learners are diving into new adventures in reading, writing, and math. Let’s take a peek at what’s coming next!
This week
Phonics: This week, we will read and write words with the long e and long u sounds, followed by consonants and silent e. Please continue helping your child distinguish between long and short vowel sounds and practice reading and writing these words at home. 📚

Reading: In Unit Six - Stories Teach Many Lessons, we will focus on describing characters, settings, and events in the stories. When reading with your child at night, please encourage them to look at the cover and take a picture walk, think about any questions they might have about the story, and then answer those questions after reading. Ask your child questions about the books they are reading and have them retell the characters, setting, problem, solution, and what happened at the beginning, middle, and end! 📖
Math: We will continue with Topic 5, focusing on understanding that the equal sign means both sides of an equation represent the same value. Students will determine if addition and subtraction equations are true or false and find missing numbers in equations. We will also learn about the Associative Property of Addition, which shows that three numbers can be added in different ways, and the sum will always be the same! Encourage your child to practice their phonics skills at home.
Make reading a nightly routine to enhance comprehension and storytelling skills.
