Big Steps, Bright Futures
Crown Point Community School Corporation is thrilled to welcome the future class of 2038! If your child will be five years old before August 1, 2025, and you live in the district boundaries, we invite you to enroll for kindergarten online on February 25th.
More information is available on our website at www.cps.k12.in.us/kindergarten.
Dear Solon Stinger Families,
What a wonderful time we’ve had celebrating One District, One Book with Just Harriet! Over the past few weeks, students have engaged in exciting activities, tested their knowledge with trivia questions, and shared in the joy of reading together. We wrapped up our journey with a lively assembly, filled with games, trivia, and a special reading of the final chapter as a school community. Today, we celebrated both the conclusion of our shared reading adventure and the start of a well-deserved spring break with ice cream from an ice cream truck.
We hope you all enjoy a restful, fun-filled break with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming everyone back, refreshed and ready for the remainder of the school year!
Wishing you all a wonderful spring break!
Yours in learning,
The Solon Robinson Elementary Team

What's Happening in Second Grade?
Mrs. Corsey's Class
In Knowledge Mrs. Corsey’s students learned about life cycles. There is no better way to observe a life cycle than watching real worms grow! Students had a hands on experience with a compost bin provided by The Lake County Solid Waste Management. Every Friday the students take care of the compost, feed the worms, and even get to interact with them by holding them. They have loved taking care of the worms each week.
Mrs. Fricke's Class
As a culminating activity for 2nd grade's CKLA Knowledge Westward Expansion domain, Mrs. Fricke's class made their own butter. They took turns shaking a mason jar full of heavy cream and watched it separate into buttermilk and butter. After all their hard work, they enjoyed their treat with crackers. 🧈
Ms. Leslie's Class
Ms. Leslie's class has been learning all about the characteristics of insects in their most recent CKLA Knowledge unit. After studying hard over the past few weeks, the class proved that they have what it takes to become certified entomologists! Using their magnifying glasses and the knowledge they earned from our insect unit, students worked in pairs to decide if their specimen was an insect or not an insect. Students observed their specimens carefully and identified the insect characteristics they saw such as 3 main body parts, six legs, and exoskeletons. They also identified things like stingers, wings, antennae, and pinchers. They were able to get up close and personal with 15 unique specimens including drone beetles, cicadas, hornets, crickets, scorpions, butterflies, and even miniature seahorses! They definitely had a beetle-ful time being entomologists today!🐜🪳🪰
Mrs. Rice's Class
The students in Mrs. Rice's class had a blast creating leprechaun traps through STEM activities. They also love having their baby chicks! The students sit in a circle and pass the baby chicks around, then watch them run around in the middle of their circle.

WEEK 3 READ-A-THON UPDATE
We set a WHOLE SCHOOL READING GOAL of 250,000 minutes. As of 10AM this morning, the students have read and logged 105,000 minutes. This is amazing, especially with 10 days left to read. Last year, our whole school reading totaled 89,000...which we've far surpassed. Wow, we are blown away by the support and excitement for Read-a-thon. Thank you so much.
REMINDER: Please continue to log your students' reading minutes over spring break (or keep track and log when you get back). Read-a-thon officially ends on March 31st.
INTERNET SAFETY NIGHT
TUES APR 8 / 6:30PM / SOLON ROBINSON
Do you have an elementary student who is on the brink of having their own cell phone? Are your children playing games online and watching YouTube? Technology is ever changing, how are you keeping them safe? If you've had these questions, you should be at this event.
They will be joined by guest speakers, Nadia Wardrip (Assistant US Attorney with the Department of Justice) and Agent Verschoor (FBI Indianapolis Child Exploitation Task Force). They are passionate about the work they have dedicated their lives to and want to give you the knowledge to make sure your kids are not another statistic.
Nadia and Agent Verschoor will provide practical tips and resources on how to protect children, recognize online threats, and maintain a safe, positive online experience.
