Leader in Me Habit #5

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood is the habit of listening to other people’s ideas and feelings. It’s trying to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. It’s about being confident in voicing your ideas. It’s about looking people in the eyes when speaking. Habit 5 is a timeless principle we all strive to teach our kids; it teaches them to be confident when speaking to others while also teaching them the importance of listening to others when they are speaking.

Monday November 25th was National Yogurt Parfait Day. Our lesson today in UP2 included sequencing skills and following instructions to create our very own Yogurt Parfaits!

Congrats to all the Raider Athletes who played football and volleyball this season. GO RAIDERS!!!

The District will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday from Wednesday, November 27th - Friday, November 29th. School resumes normal schedule on Monday, December 2nd.

Purchase tickets at GoFan. The cost is $6 ($5 per ticket and $1 service fee). Kids 4 years old and under are free.

No tickets will be sold at the gate. Cash tickets are available in the Front Office on game day between 12pm and 2pm. Cash or check only. Exact change only.

Make-Up Picture Day is scheduled for Thursday, December 5th, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM.

If your student missed the original Picture Day in October, they may have their picture taken on this day.

If you ordered pictures and would like your student to retake them, please return the original picture package to the photographer on December 5th, and their picture will be retaken.

If you did not order pictures but are not satisfied with the proof sent home, you may still have your student's picture retaken.

Students having their picture taken may bring a change of clothes for their photo and then return to dress code for the remainder of the day.

The Scholastic Book Fair will open Wednesday, December 4th in the RRMS Media Center. Students will have a chance to browse the fair on Tuesday, November 26 and Monday, December 2. Sales start Wednesday, December 4th from 8:30-2pm daily. Cash, checks, credit cards and Apple Pay/Cash App will be accepted. On Family Literacy Night, December 10, sales will be credit card and digital payments only.

Rawlinson Road Middle School is hosting a Family Literacy Night on December 10 from 5-7pm. We invite you to visit this event with your family to see your students work, get some middle school knowledge and enjoy treats. There will be specialty baskets raffled off, so bring some cash to buy tickets. There will be short performances by chorus and drama students. The Book Fair will be open, and Beta Club is hosting a canned food drive. We have a petting zoo and food vendor lined up as well. Students get a BINGO card and can earn a dress down pass if they visit five of the stations.

*If you or your student would like to donate items to the raffle basket for their team, please reach out to your child's homebase teacher to get suggestions.

During our Literacy Fair, visitors will get to vote for their favorite Holiday Card Design. The winning entry will be our official RRMS Holiday Card for the 2024 season. Dental Access Carolina mobile van will be at Rawlinson Road Middle School on December 13, 2024 to complete routine hygiene for students who completed and returned consent forms. Please call the school nurse if you have any questions.

The Rawlinson Road Middle School Chapter of the National Beta Club will be inviting new members to join in January 2025. Membership is based first on academics, requiring a 3.5 GPA at the end of 1st semester. Behavior is then reviewed as no student can hold membership if they have out-of-school suspension. If your child has made As and Bs so far this semester, there is a good chance you'll see an invitation in the mail. Talk to your student about the advantages of Beta Club Membership. Check out our by-laws and the National Beta Club website.

• School Start Time: 8:15 a.m. Supervision begins at 7:45 a.m.
• Drop-Off Location: Car riders should be dropped off at the back of the school.
• Student Supervision: Staff will assist students from buses and cars to their grade-level hallways.
• Afternoon Dismissal: Please let your child know whether they will be a car rider or bus rider in the afternoon so we can direct them accordingly. Do not park in the Northwestern parking lot (near the baseball field) to wait for RRMS students.
• Cell Phones: No cell phones allowed during the school day. Students are not allowed to record or take pictures on school grounds, including the bus.
